I would sand it with an orbital attached to a vacuum at 60, then 120, then 220. After that, I prime, paint, and clear. If you don't paint or clear, the decals will not stick well and you will get leg wrinkle. I apply them wet, then run a razor down each side, and then use a ruler & razor to cut the decal off the edge of the cabinet. When you are done, don't use cab protectors. Use the metal stern protectors.

I have done a TZ, EATPM, IJ, AFM, WH20, and Scared Stiff, and none of them peeled off. If you use a heat gun, the fumes are horrible, and you will have to sand it when your done anyway. My first 2 restores I used a heat gun removing the decal inch by inch and it took forever and smelled the whole house up with toxic smelling fumes. I just haven't had any luck with them peeling right off, so I just got right for the orbital.
