Remove mylar for Playfield protector

Is it nesesarry to remove mylar on the playfield before placing the makrolon playfield protector?
I dont know if people do this..

I don't know what's right, but I did not remove mylar first.
Didn't want to risk pulling up a bunch of artwork, to protect the artwork.

Thanks for your advice. I gave it a shot anyway and it works just fine using a hairdryer and then pull the mylar slow.
