    Is there any plan to fix the issue with the Pin Map where it shows locations that no longer have any pinball machines attached to them? In Florida USA, there are many locations plotted on the map that do not have any machines attached to them. This makes it difficult to use the map to locate pinball machines while traveling, as you have to click on each dot to see if it actually has any machines.

    Thanks,
    -E

    Can/have you contacted the administrator about removing these locations?

    #3 10 years ago

    Yes, I sent an email via the "Report a problem" form, with the links to about a half dozen locations. I just did it within the last couple of weeks, the locations are still there, but I'm not sure what the turnaround would be (if ever). I was just hoping maybe the "delete location" link could be enabled for more than just the person that originally added the location, when the location's machine count is zero... or something like that.

    I would think the administrator would be able to delete if you had submitted the request(2 weeks is too long IMO). I agree, if you know there are several that are in your area that are incorrect, it would not promote confidence when looking for others when travelling.

    I have called places to double check before going over. An added step though.....

    I would prefer/suggest implementing a system simplier than that. No need for an administrator to create a new location, why need an administrator to remove one?

    I need to remove the local arcade nearby, which closed on July 31... sad (and its location was actually created twice)

    #6 10 years ago

    Maybe adding a color to the map...Or Symbol.......Refering to..... No machines at this time....

    Would be nice. In case they would get some pins added again at a later date.... Then go back and be able to update locations.

    Better then deleting maybe......??

    I agree with your point not having the admin get involved....but I think that's currently the state that it's in. Would be a nice addition.

    thx for the post- maybe they can make it so we can ajust to currant status- castles and coasters (out of phx) cut over half its machine awhile back it would be great to know currant data, might save heart ache and a trip.

    I tried updating listings for several places in my area that had no pins, but the delete does not take and the location keeps popping up. I feel your concern

    Good idea, probably relatively simple to implement.

    It seams that a year later, not a whole lot has changed in this proses.

    All I have tried is to contacted the creator of the location of the site and ask for him to remove the site. It's the best luck I have had.

    I couldn't find the one at Six Flags St. Louis.

    When was the last time it was updated?

    In some areas, operator competition is fierce. I would not think it beyond some, to go in and delete all their competitors locations.
    Maybe that's why the admin. should stay involved.

    This is very true. In my area this was the case. A few places made their own account just to have control over their location. All those places have closed up shop and forgotten about this place.

    Sorry for my slow reply.

    I would like to keep "old" locations on the map as a reference, for the purpose of telling people that the location they may have visited before now no longer has pins. This as opposed to not showing the location at all and people potentially adding a location "from memory" when the current situation is that it has no more games.

    What's more, a location might get games back and then we can simply add them to the locations entry because it still exists and with that we'll also keep old comments, photos, bookmarks etc. for a location.

    I have recently (September I think it was) added game count to the map indicator icons. A location with no more games show a 0 (zero) now.

    Any other ideas how to improve are welcome!

    It would be nice to have locations with NO games greyed out.

    Actually it would be really nice to have a coloring system for the pinpoints on a map.

    Something like?
    Green = 20 or more
    Blue = 10 or more
    Yellow = 5 or more
    Orange = 3 or more
    Red = 1 game only

    Or a size of the dot represents the proportional # of games at that location and then have a ratings factor for color would be sweet. Big green point is lots and great. Small red dot means dont waste your time because few and poor condition.

    Well, the location dots already show the number of games. And more games = bigger dot.

    Yeah the dots with the # of machines is a nice touch. I guess my reasoning for removing them was more mobile related in nature. Maybe its an iPhone thing but the site runs slow and a little clunky on my phone which is the main place I use the map. As a result the additional locations on the list side take longer to weed through and then zooming takes longer to sort on the map.

    The idea of the greyed feature is appealing to me.

    Many thanks for taking the time to respond Robin.

    I think the current system works great, and I especially like the number of games showing up on the dots. Being a perfectionist, I wish I could delete a couple of places that don't have games and probably never will have them again, but I totally understand your reasoning of keeping it on the map with a zero.

    #21 9 years ago

    So if some one had memory of a place in the 70's that had machines, they'd should put it on the map with no games?

    #22 9 years ago

    I had not realized that the dots show number of games till now! That is great.

    I would still like an easy user rating guide so people can easily star the good or bad locations based on game condition. It would be great to know when visiting a good town which spots have the best playing games (condition of game and how well maintained is the most important to me)

    Nope, doesn't work the other way around

    Maybe we should go for an expiring date for locations that have zero games. Delete them after a year of not having games. Or two years maybe. Could be done easily.

    Rating locations was on my to-do list, but other stuff got in the way.

    That would be great. There are also instances of duplication locations for the same spot so it would be good to somehow be able to remove those duplicates.

    Here is a local to me example of a duplicate

    I have just deleted all locations with game count 0 that haven't been edited in a year.
    It affected 287 locations.

    Thanks for reporting duplicates. I will see if I can automate that process a little.

    ...on that subject. Maybe we should have a map administrator? Someone who will handle Pinside map change requests, duplicates, wrong location markers etc? LaughinOtter did this some years back, but never officially. Who has affinity with the map and wants to help improve it? PM me if you're interested ... and have the time to do this!

    Is there a system in place for deleting entries which no longer have a pin? I have contacted several pubs in London and am trying to remove Queen Of Hoxton as they have confirmed there are no longer any pins available.

    Thanks!

    #28 5 years ago

    I have always been kind of opposed to deleting locations as I think it's more informative to show that a location NO LONGER has games instead of leaving people wondering "hey didn't this or that pub have games". By leaving the location page up and having it appear gameless and with a mention "this location no longer has any games to play" it is much clearer that the location used to have games but not anymore.

    Another good reason is that locations might be only temporarily without games. Deleting them would remove their entire history and also make Google search link to non-existent location pages on Pinside.

    I could perhaps change the map filter to default to locations that have >=1 game(s). Would that help?

    And perhaps we need to have a better indication on the map that a location is "gameless"? We already show a zero for game count, but perhaps also show in a different color or something?
