On a NASCAR pin that I have, I just noticed no batteries were installed in the holder on the board. Closer inspection revealed (at least as it appears to me) that it isn't even connected electrically to the board. Anyone with a reason as to why that might be the case? Regarding hooking up a remote battery backup with 3 AA's in it, would I just solder the - wire from that device to Ground terminal on the left side of the existing unused battery holder and the + wire to the Vbatt terminal on the right side of the battery holder? Thanks!

Quoted from maddog14:

Does your machine hold the high scores and other data?
if so, there is something else installed. Perhaps something similar to NVRAM.
So do not do anything just yet. Lets get some more information from you.

I'll unplug it for a bit and see if it holds the high score info when I plug it back in. I hadn't had any problems of that type in the past but recently while troubleshooting a faulty connector causing intermittent failure of the coin door interlock and L flipper, I was jiggling the board connectors with the plastic handle side of a screwdriver while the machine was on and it reset all the high scores causing me to want to look into things further. Thanks.
