There have been so many talented actors who have given their time to record pinball voice overs. I'm sure some have enjoyed the novelty of the experience while others dreaded it. I'd really love to see or read an interview with a celebrity talking about their experience recording a voice over for a pinball machine.

Like, I would LOVE to hear Gary Oldman talking about having to scream "30 MILLION!!!" in his Dracula voice. The idea of a classically trained, Shakespearean actor begrudgingly shouting "Jackpot!" is just hysterical to me.

Same goes for Clint Eastwood's experience recording Dirty Harry, and why he chose to include "I know a good place for some hot dogs."

Something tells me David Harbour got a kick out of doing Stranger Things. Ernie Hudson sounds enthused on Ghostbusters.

I've been trying to find some videos or interviews on Google/Youtube, but I can't find anything!

If I find anything I'll post it to this thread, or if ya'll come across anything plz post! Have you ever met a celebrity and asked them about it?

The best story is the Dirty Harry story. Been repeated many times.

Here it is again!

Gather around little children as I weave the tale of the speech for
Dirty Harry...

The game was in development during the time Clint was
shooting/directing/editing/etc. Bridges of Madison County. After
contacting his people about getting him to record custom speech for the
game, we were generally told that he was too busy, but a sound-alike
would be just fine. So we brought in our standard sound-alike guy who
did a GREAT job. His Dirty Harry voice was everything you could want in
a Dirty Harry pinball game; growly, angry, exciting, big than life, etc.
Generally, exactly waht you REMEMBER Harry to be in the movies (which
isn't necessarily what he WAS in the movies).

Pretty close to the end of the development cycle, Clint's people called
and said that now he WOULD have time to do the speech, since he was
doing some dialog replacement stuff at a sound studio. So Vince, the
sound guy, flew out and did a recording session with Clint.

Well, Vince comes back, and we're naturally all excited to hear his
stuff. And we were all pretty disappointed, with what I'd call, at best,
a very Disinterested Harry. Now given the situation, I don't think
anyone can be blamed, as there were many factors involved here:
a) Clint had a lot of things on his mind at the time, and pretty much
only had a hour to spare to read a very long set of dialog.
b) Clint at the time was now over 20 years older than when he was when
he filmed the first movie, and pretty much acnowledged that to Vince.
"It's been a long time since I've played this character."
c) It's gotta be very intimidating to have Clint in the sound booth and
try directing him "C'mon Clint, grit your teeth a little bit more, sound
ANGRIER!! Trust me, I know how your classic character should sound."
d) And just the fact that we REALLY liked the way the sound-a-like
turned out.

Unfortunately, everyone felt compelled that we had to use Clint's speech
even though we weren't very happy with it. So, rest assured that every
speech call in the game was specially recorded for the game. And when
Dirty Harry leans back and finishes his coffee as he off-handedly
mutters "Hey, that punk just stole my car" in a voice that seems to want
to add "but that's okay, it's a rental," you can be sure that it's Clint
Eastwood.

Ha ha, that's great! I have a DH and I've always thought Eastwood's "extra ball" voice over sounded kind of stilted. By contrast Gary Oldman really gets into his on BSD. Although that article makes me wonder how many of them are actually sound-alikes...

Seems like most actors are reluctant to have anything to do with most recent games.

You're right about Dracula. Gary Oldman sounds surprisingly into it when I went back & listened to him. All that screaming!

I can imagine some of these recording sessions going like this:

Switched out the lightning flippers on my BSD and am getting the triple stack a lot more often, which made me think of this thread. Gary Oldman's "30 MILLION!" callout is great, he really was a good sport about it!

I thought Clint did the voicecalls for Williams Dirty Harry!

Lars certainly didn’t seem over keen on Metallica!

I remember feeling kind of letdown when the karl urban sound package was released for star trek. sounded like the dirty harry recording to me.

Sounded fine to me. It was just odd that Bones suddenly had such a prominent role on the Bridge of the Enterprise, and in fact, every where else in Star Trek action.

Sammy Hagar didn’t sound quite right on NASCAR

I’ll share my story.

I built a custom game and wanted actors from the original film franchise to provide callouts. I contacted several of them and got in touch with about half. Out of six, one of them ‘didn’t get it.’ His callouts were lackluster, not because he wasn’t awesome, but because he likely didn’t understand the relationship between callouts and the pinball experience. Who was I to tell him to re-do it?

So I empathize with games like ACNC, Jaws and Metallica that have some shaky performances. It’s tough to capture from someone who doesn’t ’get it.’ Like the sound team on Jaws, I’m certainly not going to tell Academy award winning actor Richard Dreyfuss to re-do his spinner callout.

In the behind the scenes footage of Richard Dreyfus doing Jaws, he didn’t seem to be overjoyed to be there. Maybe he’s just old and tired.

Nah, he was probably just hoping pinball would pay tribute to something he had done more recently like The Goodbye Girl.
