Got a Roadshow that's working great, except for Red's eyeballs. Every 10th time or so she glances right, her eyeballs get stuck that way. It's not a solenoid issue, as the solenoids continue to fire as normal. It's something physical. The nylon part is moving too far to the left, and the eye link doesn't want to collapse because it's being pushed at too direct an angle. It can't do this to the right, because the blink linkage is in the way, preventing the nylon part from being able to move too far. I guess I don't quite understand what the eyeball spring bar does, but I'm starting to suspect that. These heads drive me nuts. Anyone seen this before and know the answer?

Maybe try some Visine ? I hear it gets the red out . Sorry, couldnt resist. Im sure someone who actually knows what your issue is will chime in.

The spring bar helps to re enter the eyes after the coil fires. There are also two brass eyelets on each side that put tension on the spring bar. These eyelets eventually wear out and need to be replaced. These are very likely part of the problem. Your spring bar may also not be straight anymore, which could allow the nylon part stress and break. You will need to take the eyes out to check that nylon centering bar.

Just take the head out of the game.
Much better to work on it from behind, more space.
Clean the mechanism in side the head.
Looks like it never has been cleaned properly.

You will need to rebuild the head, by dropping the bottom motor assembly and gearbox below the head on the underside of the playfield, and then remove the entire head. It is not as bad as it sounds.

It could be the torsion bar, springs, coils, or the plunger with latch, as this is a multi part system between horizontal eye movement and vertical eyelids that work together to give pinmation. The parts may have either slipped, cracked, broken, or missing thereby interferely with operation, but you will not be able to evaluate or repair properly unless the the entire head is on a workbench.

Pay close attention to scrutinize for any cracks or broken plastic pieces.

Reference you operations manual for schematics and TAKE PHOTOS.

Man, those heads are creepy. Thank the stars she isn't staring at you.

What's even creepier is taking the faces off. If you've ever cleaned them while still attached, it'll look like the eyes were crying inside the face. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely take it out of the playfield and clean it, and take a look at the nylon bit and the spring bar.

For anyone else having this problem, it was indeed cracks in the nylon thingie with the eyelets. This allows it to droop and deform, and results in the eyes getting stuck as the thing bends around the actuator.
