I picked up a 1950 Gottlieb Knockout and would like to have it restored. Looking for recommendations on who might be able to restore it.

Here is what I have to work with:

Thanks!

Wow.... That went for a grand?

You might want to describe what you're looking to do as far as level of restoration... you can spend hundreds of hours on these things to get them into pristine shape; all depends on how far down the "pristine" path you want to go. There are some top restorers that would be happy to accommodate you, depending on work required, expectations and budget.

I would like to see the brown paint either removed from the cabinet and see if the paint below is serviceable or have the cabinet repainted.
I would like to have the inserts leveled or fixed.
I would like the machine given a once over mechanically to ensure everything is working properly.
Beyond that I would be up for any other recommendations.

The game works, but playing it with the inserts sunken in is wearing the playfield.

Id go for broke, and turn it over for a professional restore.

The joy of the result without the headache is worth it, if it is out of your skill set.

Just too cool a game to do half way...

#6 4 years ago

Have yet to receive any recommendations. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

#7 4 years ago

what is your location? and do you want it to look new? as in a new pf and backglass and repainted or somewhere in between?

#8 4 years ago

I’m in Indiana. I will soon have a new playfield. I’m good with the backglass. Definitely need to either remove the brown paint and see what is underneath or repaint.

I can travel. Been to PA 3 times in the past year or so.

i have a knock out cabinet with original paint. not mint but presentable. i also have restored this title before to like new. pm me if interested

I highly recommend Nick Raschilla in Pennsylvania. His restorations are top notch, both mechanically and aesthetically. He's got several Knockouts that he's restored over the years, along with counts of other great titles. I'm sure he can share photos and details of those restorations with you upon request.

#11 4 years ago

I second that. Nick is a hall of fame restorer. I saw pics of his Knockout restorations and they are fantastic. He did four games for me over the last 5 years and couldn’t be happier.
When he is finished it will play better than out of the box. Nick’s work IS the definition of restoration.
PM me if you want pics emailed or want to talk further. You are welcome to come take a look at my games. I still have two.

#12 4 years ago

The answer is easy! Nick Raschilla! He just restored this Knock Out. I do not have very many good photos but here are a few. There are also a few pictures of my dads Royal Flush Nick also restored. If you decide you want to talk to Nick send me your contact info.

Just wow

Yeah, he’s the man. I have Ninjas watching his house. Next time Nick leaves for the store to buy a quart of milk, they are going in to steal all of his pins for me. They are spectacular.

#15 4 years ago

That is some incredibly good work....!!!!!

#16 4 years ago

I owned several restorations by Nick over the years. Currently, have a Pleasure Isle (with original cabinet paint) and a recent full restoration of Mermaid.

I enjoyed the video oldcarz. That Mermaid restoration looks fantastic. How'd you get Morgan Freeman to do the voice over?
You have a great collection of beautiful old woodies there.

It would be great one of you could start a thread showcasing his work and showing off all of the machines he has restored.

Hint! Hint!

Nick also restores automobiles. He is very meticulous and takes great pride in his work; treating every game as if it were his own. You can see his collection by looking up “Vic Camp Pinball: Nick Raschilla”on You Tube. It is a four part tour of his gameroom discussing each one of his games that he had up and running at the time. Get out the popcorn!

Nick does nice work. Regarding the Knockout the colors are vivid. Is that the colors when new?

The wood trim must be new on the Knockout or they were painted to lighten before the clearing coat. Sure wish I knew how that was achieved.

That’s the natural color of the wood. Nick did a Universe for a friend and came out the same way.

Thank you for the compliments. I had a friend do the Morgan Freeman impersonation.

Yep! Purples become brown...quite convincingly I might add. Here's a Roto Pool:

If anyone cares to see Nick’s collection you can do so by logging into Pinballowners.com and looking him up. He goes by “ specialwhenlit”

What does it mean when a game is “zero timed”?

I believe it’s another term for completely restored

#29 4 years ago

Or the play counter is returned to zero?
