Looking for a reasonably priced surge protector that actually does its job. Preferably one I can get via mail order in the U.S. Any recommendations?

These are three types I usually get:

belkin 6-outlet 6ft cord with flat rotating plug:

tripp lite 6-outlet 6ft cord with standard plug:

tripp lite 7-outlet 12ft cord with standard plug:

Here’s a thread I created on my power surge experience:

Cliff notes- Typical surge protector did nothing to save our home theater setup. Lost thousands worth of other items.

Installed whole home surge protection for ~$300.

Tripp lite & belkin claim to protect against direct lightning strikes, however, I have not actually tested this myself.

Tripp lite & belkin have policies in place to replace equipment connected to their products if their products should fail, including from lightning strikes. ($20k for tripp lite, $15k for belkin).

I see that monster cable also has a connected products policy--did you try filing a claim with them? I've never had to file a claim, so I'm curious how easy/difficult the process actually is.

No, I didn’t try filing a claim. Once I found out how cheap the TVs could be fixed, it didn’t seem like it would be worth the hassle.

I’ll never buy a plug-in surge protector again though. Ours was a waste of money IMO.
