Gonna give this a try in my JP

Kit is ordered, SD card already prepped and look forward to receiving it and trying it out. Hopefully somewhere next week

Quoted from BENETNATH:

Hi,
Some question :
- Any luck for stern, as they basically are updated DE ? My LOTR would be happy!
- Pi zero or Pi3, any difference at the end ?
- Booting time wise, what's the best setup and Linux distrib ? What is the current timing to have sound on cold boot ?
- did you explain somewhere the relay for a shaker ? I would like to have my tommy linked not only to propellers, but also to some sounds.
- Would it be possible to add 3 channels for additional toy triggering, like the shaker? That we could call based on sound ? A chimebox in the tommy would be easy that way.
Thanks

As far as I know from German forum

1) Stern lot more difficult as there is not a separate soundboard. A kind of adapter would be needed to grasp the signals from the cpu. Pinsound has one for Whitestar
2) I am running a raspberry zero which does the job just fine. Guess a pi3 would just be faster in booting? My cold boot time is 35 seconds (no preloading).
3 and 4) for Steve to answer.

Quoted from Andyj965:

Hi Steve,
Would it be possible to use this and share the PSU for the Pin2DMD? Also i assume a pi2 would be sufficient if i purchased a v1.9 kit?
Thanks,
Andy

I am using the same PSU to drive pin2dmd and raspisound. Think it’s a 5A psu by the way.

Must also mention I am struggling to get it properly working. Waiting for a fix allowing to adjust the power levels of callouts vs music and a proper working volumebutton. This as should be possible. Am using a pi zero by the way. Volume is thus not working properly with me and waiting for a solution from Steve.

Finished building the board but unfortunately no GO

I see leds go on. I see the raspberry green and red leds start to flicker but no go. Should I not at least hear the version number coming from the speakers? Or do I need to set something in the config parameters ? Looking in the (attached) logfile I see that the PI is running at least. If I put my finger on the inputs of the amplifier I can hear this in the speakers so they are getting a voltage t. tried connecting an earset to the socket on the DAC module, nothing to be heard. Also I n otice the displayh is not shwoing anything. I do only hear some crack sounds, especially when the green led is on.

Am updated to rel 1.28. Am using the soundset you sent me but am gusessing its not a oundset issue as otherwise I would have heard at laest the version number of the software.

Any thoughts?

Oh, 1 thing perhaps worth mentioning. I soldered the GIO 40 pin header down to the board to find out later this means the pins of the PI dont go in 100%, perhaps like 90%.

Hope somebody can give me a hint for next step. Thanks.

I checked the logfile further and I see among others this

2019-05-11 13:41:56.640 DEBUG RasPiSnd [playSystemSound] [sdl_sound.c:562] play sound: sounds/boot.ogg
2019-05-11 13:41:59.081 DEBUG RasPiSnd [playSystemSound] [sdl_sound.c:562] play sound: sounds/version.ogg

However, a sounds directory isnt visible on the Windows part, could this be on the Linux part which I cant see or is it missing and this is the reason for not hearing anything when booting? This is a fresh image which I installed and only updated.

Quoted from kba78:

Can anyone tell me the music that plays at the end of the game never stops? Just goes on and on. Data East star wars by the way

There is a setting in the config where you can state if music should loop or not. Sounds like yours is set on looping.

I can’t get a sound to on a F board.

Did go the old Usb dongle route and connected that to the amplifier (and thus bypassing the DAC module) and that worked. But was not possible to adjust sound level via potmeter in the cabinet of a SW DE.

For the moment i have laid this project aside as non working. Have a dac module on order and see if that does the trick.

You really have to see that this is a project for a lot of DIY and limited support from supplier. If that’s OK for you go ahead, if not go to France.

I tested it in my SW DE and the sounds were played correctly. Couldn’t adjust soundlevel via potmeter which is annoying. Unexpected sold the SW but took out the tilt audio board.

Steve

This error in the layout, is this causing the no sound I am experiencing?

#920 4 years ago
Quoted from steve45:

Most probably yes. Which revision of the board are you using?

F version

Quoted from steve45:

The layout error "only" disrupts the communication between the game and the pi. Sound in general e.g. triggered from web ui should work.

I didn’t get any sound via the web ui but the sounds via usb in real data East pinball were ok.
