That seemed to do it, the set he sent me works. Still don't have the onboard amps or DAC working, but outputting thru the Pi's 3.5mm jack to an amplified speaker works for now. Might have to just pick up a 2 channel external amp and some car speakers to replace the ones in the panel for now.

Where in the options can I change the mixing when multiple tracks are playing at once, right now the music fade out is a bit too much when an effect plays.

Anyone have an unscrambled sound set for Fish Tales? Trying to get mine working one part at a time. This is the first hurdle.

Been a while since I have messed with mine, because it's been down. But I thinks if you click on each song/ sounds, you can adjust the gain and stuff like that at the bottom of the sample screen in the web ui

Thanks, yea I managed to find the mixing section.

It's starting to come together, but I'm still having issues with the onboard DAC and amps... I reached out to Steve on slack to see if he has any ideas on what to check. I'll report back if I figure out what is causing my issue.

If I want to add my own soundtrack, is it just a matter of creating sound bites in the correct format (.ogg) and renaming them to match the string that corresponds to the sound? (Obviously, creating the correct folder/file structure as the standard sound set).

Not sure on this, mine didn't work long enough to get that far. I am still hoping when Steve mails the replacement smd's and it fixes my issues.
My question is if I decided to order another data East kit, would it work in older games like back to the Future?

First I would recommend to transcode all sounds to standard wav.
Second: changing the mix with the webUI is even easier. You can just add or remove sounds in the browser and try it immediately in the game itself.

So I finally got to try putting my board into my Shadow instead of my fish tales, and Im getting the same error. So I assume that means maybe one of the SMD chips isn't on right or bad maybe? Any ideas? Here is what I get spammed over and over again in the logs with no game started and no attract sounds. Should be silence.

Hi all, I am doing a data East star wars.
I seem to be having trouble with the sound set. Wrong sounds/music at wrong times. Repeating sounds and music too. All sounds work in the wed UI, just play at wrong times
Does anyone have a verified working sound set for this game? I would really appreciate it if you could send it to me
Thanks

Finished building the board but unfortunately no GO

I see leds go on. I see the raspberry green and red leds start to flicker but no go. Should I not at least hear the version number coming from the speakers? Or do I need to set something in the config parameters ? Looking in the (attached) logfile I see that the PI is running at least. If I put my finger on the inputs of the amplifier I can hear this in the speakers so they are getting a voltage t. tried connecting an earset to the socket on the DAC module, nothing to be heard. Also I n otice the displayh is not shwoing anything. I do only hear some crack sounds, especially when the green led is on.

Am updated to rel 1.28. Am using the soundset you sent me but am gusessing its not a oundset issue as otherwise I would have heard at laest the version number of the software.

Any thoughts?

Oh, 1 thing perhaps worth mentioning. I soldered the GIO 40 pin header down to the board to find out later this means the pins of the PI dont go in 100%, perhaps like 90%.

Hope somebody can give me a hint for next step. Thanks.

I know Steve posted a star wars video from a friend of his. Maybe Steve can get a copy of his sound set. I would like to get this running correctly, I have been working on it since February!

In the video, the sounds were not correct and I pointed it out and never got any replies. I worked with SW for months and never got it to work so I gave up. I still monitor this thread waiting for a breakthrough but for now, good luck.

I know they are not quite right, but definitely better than what I have going on. Not sure why these are being sold with no Access to working soundset. Obviously the one Steve gave me months ago is way off on the mapping. At this point, I would even take a working soundset for almost any data East, as I have a whole bunch of them. Would rather get it working for star wars but I just don't want to throw it away

I checked the logfile further and I see among others this

2019-05-11 13:41:56.640 DEBUG RasPiSnd [playSystemSound] [sdl_sound.c:562] play sound: sounds/boot.ogg
2019-05-11 13:41:59.081 DEBUG RasPiSnd [playSystemSound] [sdl_sound.c:562] play sound: sounds/version.ogg

However, a sounds directory isnt visible on the Windows part, could this be on the Linux part which I cant see or is it missing and this is the reason for not hearing anything when booting? This is a fresh image which I installed and only updated.

Just wanted to update my issue.
I borrowed a raspberry pi from a friend and low and behold, something was wrong with my raspi!!!! Sounds seem to be playing right or at least much more appropriate. Still seem to have small issues like the sound cuts out if turned up real loud, but I am guessing that's a power issue?

#867 8 days ago

That's interesting. I cant get mine to work correctly in any of my machines (I actually have 2 boards and they both act the same way, but I moved the pi with them). Maybe Ill have to get another pi and try it out.

#868 8 days ago

I still would like the sound set that Steve posted a video of on page 16, but he or his friend doesn't seem to want to share. I have asked repeatedly. So for now I am working with the on I got.
Describe your problem a little more or post a video, maybe I can help. I have only worked on Data East, but principle should still be the same

#869 7 days ago

I posted up my errors before, but basically, Im getting sound requests that shouldn't be there (the same request in multiple games). Also, the sound set is way wrong, and I dont think its scrambled (not sure how to tell if it is though, so who knows).

#870 7 days ago

When my sounds were scrambled, I had two different things happen
1) it announced that the soundset was scrambled and didn't play any of the sounds
2) in the web ui, when clicking on the sample sounds, only some would play and then some would just give an error message on the screen.

If you don't experience either of these, then I would try a new raspberry pi B. I have only used a B and I an still working on get all my sounds evened out. Some are too low, some are too loud

Glad to hear this - it was confusing how you were having such a different experience as others. Glad you got it figured out!

There is a setting in the config where you can state if music should loop or not. Sounds like yours is set on looping.

Ok, thanks for the help. I try to find which setting it is.

Does anyone know a reliable source for soundsets, I would like to try mine out in different data East games.

Anyone?

Wanted to give yet another update to my data East situation. With loading the donated sounds above, it works much better. A couple things are still not quite right, but definitely livable. For example, storm trooper shootout makes no sounds. So you don't know it is ready unless you are looking at the display. I can live with it, but some may not. Still have trouble with WiFi and data East sound controls, can't get either to work, but not the end of the world
