Great project!! Can this be used (with a WPC89 dmd board) to replace a WPC95 AV board like you can do with a pinsound board?

Quoted from steve45:

Just a quick heads-up: I'm currently out of amplifiers and china supply chain has actually some problems (see https://www.reddit.com/r/Aliexpress/comments/bcu7xb/oops_this_item_is_unavailable/ ). In the meantime I managed to order some, but expect some delay in shipping. Sorry for that.

It runs with the newer WPC machines but it does not replace the av board. The av board is still needed for the video (DMD) part.
But it replaces audio generation.

Yes, i think that's why with the pinsound it is needed a wpc89 video board too to successfully replace the AV board!

Maybe there is a way to use it with ŕaspisound too!

I never tried it but it should basically the same. The boards share the same data bus and are chained together one after the other.
This setup should work with the TILT! Audio board as well.

I don´t see any commands coming from the machine in the logfile. Maybe steve45 can have a look

Looks like a Altsound Soundset, this is buggy in RC9 as far as I know....

#762 4 years ago

There's a 1.25rc10 already that fixes that bug: https://mega.nz/#!h5hkHQxb!dU1MY5vyHfgk_S-j0A4ZQyWFYkr3yXiTwFtqsVgUjrA

This is obviously an alternate sound package but there are a few sounds that are left over from the original sound package that are playing at the wrong time. For example, “Death Star approaching” doesn’t play when the ball is ejected into the shooter lane. It plays when the Death Star target is hit with the required amount of time. I would like to see a video of the original sound package and compare to the real sound board.

Remember to read the assembly revision for that version, as there is still a couple of small errors: https://tiltaudio.com/2019/04/18/assembly-instructions-for-2-5c-green/

Thanks for the reminder

Does anybody have a picture of a completed 2.5c board?

The easyeda site doesn’t appear to have the 2.5x schematics on there any more and I’d like to verify the placement for the thread resistors, left .156 header connectors and the single tantalum cap.

I ordered 2.5d boards on my own a few weeks ago and they look great. Still waiting for all my components to show up from China though I have everything except the amps now I think. As soon as I get them, 3 machines will be getting new boards, and Ill probably build one up for a buddy since minimum order was 5 pcbs. Cant wait to try them out!

#773 4 years ago

The new version 1.25 is out!! You can find update files and brand new images here:

Update file for 1.25 https://mega.nz/#!hh4EwKZa!y0zpyWfsMRV8Kr1p3touUfR9FXKJVoEEdTddDSQoF_s

Small Image:https://mega.nz/#!w9RlVa5Q!3kkSyMIoBbqQNsGQXv6x9hXZ-ZZsQIhS3K_MRZqIWiU to be used with 4GB sd card + usb stick for sound
Big Image: https://mega.nz/#!h85jGSSL!aQU2r7r7SLUHxQl_G453G-JKBSQEq6V6DmnvAQqky3I to be used with 16GB sd card for firmware and sound

So whats new:

Better and easy Wifi Setup. The board creates its own hotspot, if wifi was not setup, so you can easily connect and configure everything.

TILT_Audio-wifi-setup (resized).jpgTILT_Audio-wifi-setup (resized).jpg

10 band equalizer
--------------------

For the main audio devices there is now an additional device, that integrates an equalizer into the output stream:
TILT_Audio-equal (resized).jpgTILT_Audio-equal (resized).jpg

So you can easily adjust and fine tune the sound output by using equalizer controls.

Find a full and more detailed description for the new 1.25 here https://tiltaudio.com/2019/05/11/whats-new-with-firmware-1-25/

NOTE: the two main features (wifi setup / equalizer) will only work if, you install the new image. Only update zip is not enough in this case.

I read back through the posts but can’t find the information I was looking for.
With the new firmware I thought I read that the mapping file is no longer needed. Is this correct? Also, where are the sounds downloaded from. Are we still getting the packages from Pinsound? I thought this was one of the problems they had with this project.
I also want to confirm that the new firmware will work with version 2 boards?

There's a lot of sound packages available online. TILT!Audio support 4 different formats until now and I guess there's nobody out there ended up with having built a kit but no sound.

Yes the new firmware will also work with version 2.x shields.

No idea about the Frenchman, I push my project forward and there was a lot of progress and new features.

Can you be more specific on sound package locations on the internet? I have searched and found not VP sound sets on VPForums or VPuniverse.

Did you ask for a specific soundset there ? Due to the usage of copyrighted material in the soundsets like original soundtracks of the movie they are not in the download section.

I have a build kit that plays sounds at the wrong time. So it's like I have one with no sounds. It doesn't play a couple of wrong songs, it plays pretty much all wrong sounds

If you're looking for help you're going to need to post some information about the game. Details like -
Which game?
Which board revision?
Where did you get the sound files?
How is your USB drive folders structured

Sounds like you have a scrambled sound set

Data East star wars sound set from Steve, unscrambled
2.5 shield
Sd card
All sounds work, just triggered at wrong time

#781 4 years ago

As some of you hesitate to build the board, just because it has also some SMD components on it, I did a quick video that shows how easy it is to solder them. No cut, just live recorded, 5 min.

The converter can only run with the matching config file included in the soundset folder.

Looks like this is missing. There was a post on flippermarkt, mentioning some site with altsound packages. May be there is something included you're looking for ...

There was a config file in the sound set from a certain vendor. What exactly is conversion utility looking for? If you want to take it to PM, that works too

I finally took the time this evening and put one of my spare TILT!Audio boards into my msf game. Took only a few minutes to replace and it plays very nice.

My msf has a few more mods like extra leds in backbox speakers, big color pin2dmd and also the whole gi is rgb. But to be honest the biggest thrill is always the new sound. Of course I replaced the speakers as well to get more volume and clearer sound.

Hi Steve,

Received your red board kit a few days ago, and built it today. All went well, and I've installed it in my ST:TNG and successfully connected to it via WiFi. I've put firmware 1.25 on it. This board is replacing a Pinsound board in the machine, so I copied over the ST:TNG Original sound set over to the Tilt board. It seems I'm running into the scrambled soundset problem:

New batch of PCB arrived today. I assembled one for testing with WPC see below
ta-2.5e-small (resized).jpgta-2.5e-small (resized).jpg

The new revision 2.5e has only minor changes compared to 2.5d: just moved some parts and added a few labels.

With the new PCBs all parts for kits are again in stock.

Quick question. I have 2.5d boards, is the correct audio output the equal-dac to use just the normal speaker out?

#791 4 years ago

The equal-dac should give you access to a 10 band equalizer, but i never got that to work on my board. It just keeps saying that the device is busy. I reported it to Steve, but i don't think he has had the time to look into it yet.

I don't remember all of the choices, but i believe there is also one just called dac, which should be just fine if you don't need the eq.

I took some time this afternoon to dig into that weird equalizer not running problem and finally found it. Damn the programmers of the ALSA sound system and especially there error handling!! If there is an arbitrary little piece wrong in the setup the driver (or plugin) simply crashes with no comment why.

In this case the equalizer plugin relying on the HOME environment var set when process executes, if not set then exits with a misleading error message and a "half open" device. In addition systemd on the one hand executes all services as root be default, but ONLY if you configure "User=root" it also sets HOME and USER environment vars. ARRGGHH!!

Long story short: Equalizer not works with the 1.27 update: https://mega.nz/#!p9hUCSYA!QGu7Bv5ViQW74-xYgMPQ2T1L1I8qIQhP2leHd3YxGpM

You may need to reboot after the update is installed.

No idea where to even start. Ive been in IT for 18 years, so I can do anything you ask

All you need to do is to add the line
export HOME=/root
at the beginning of the pinsound.sh start script in /home/pi/despi

The update mechanism failed because it's updated the new startscript tiltaudio.sh which obviously isn't used as the environment that shows up in the provided logfile has no "HOME" variable.

Need to rework the update or stick to the old name until the next complete image is ready for distribution.

The update mechanism itself was partly broken since rebranding to TILT!Audio. Effectively the start script was never updated since then. This time start script also needed an update and that how the problem show up.

Anyway, here is a new update package that should also update the new tiltaudio.sh startscript and therefore finally fix the equalizer problem.
