graph paper is your friend. I plotted my entire gameroom out to scale on graph paper. 1ft was 1 square. Each machine was easy to graph and pencil in. Went through 3 or 4 layouts, before deciding on the best layout to fit the most games and people able to walk between while people play.

Better: graph paper for the room, to-scale cut-outs for the machines. Push 'em around until you're happy.
