Quoted from MegaFeenix:One thing that is frustrating about this hobby is how a male audience is targeted seemingly alone. The elephant in the room being that’s who is buying and supporting pinball by a large majority. My thought is I would love a Sailor Moon, Ru Paul’s Drag Race, or a Golden Girls pin. Barbi would make a good pin next to that newer Hotwheels one. What are your thoughts pinside? ... Wonder Woman!
Addendum:
This post was never meant to be an indictment of the pinball industry. Although it is interesting that people jump right to that one way or the other. I’m more interested in what I.P. or themes you want that are considered “girly” so are not touched or you think could bring success and potential growth in pinball. General themes are pretty much gender neutral, even Houdini with a male lead I feel is “straight down the middle” but maybe others feel differently.
I’m late to this party, so my apologies if any of this has been said.
Don’t underestimate the role of demand. There are too many undeniable facts to just blame “old white men”
Given the financial means, most men would gladly drop a pinball machine in any room in their house. Even guys who barely think about pinball. The vast majority of women would kill to not let one through their doors.
Most men hate female oriented themes (the reverse is also true, no doubt). For gods sakes, half the guys on pinside 8 yrs ago acted like their dicks would fall off if they played WOZ. Why would manufacturers risk alienating the bulk of pinball fans? Right or wrong, this is economic reality.
I was going to make a long list, but these two factors really sum it up. Some of the theme suggestions above sound great, and I’d love to see or play them, but I can’t imagine a company risking their future on them.
