I'm looking to buy an EM that was changed from 2" flippers to 3" at some point. I would switch back to the 2" length if I buy the machine. How challenging is this modification? I haven't worked on flippers much. I attached a photo to see if the previous owner did anything odd when he made the change. Thanks for your input!

    http://www.pbresource.com/ Get new flippers.

Remove the screws on top and swap them. Should be pretty simple.

Bank A Ball is a fun game! The 2" flippers should install easily.

Just swap the white plastic tops with the correct 2" ones like these:

Pinball Resource also has them (part number A5094-5):

Post a photo with the flippers removed. If the correct flipper shoe is under those 3" ones, the 2" flippers should install no problem.

Thanks. Will do. First I need to see if the wife will let me bring this one home considering I have three other project machines already. Amazing how these things multiply.

I always wondered how I could make all those 2 inch flipper games fun. Now I have seen the light.

From that photo, and the way that those 3 inch flippers are mounted, the advantage looks like only 1/2 inch.

Possibly slightly better than mounting a post between the flippers, as no permanent damage has been created.

The only one I considered was Cross Town. Gap between flippers is ridiculous.

Yes, but it's part of the design. Any less, and the objective would be too easy. I play my brother's "CT" all the time, and it's a blast. The gap is wide, but you have to learn the game and it's angles. Same with "Subway". Both are very fun players and enjoyable. These designs are tested and approved before the games are released, and balance playability for the player with profit for the operator. Gottlieb was very good at this, and their designs have stood the test of time. I don't believe in monkeying with the original design because I believe these guys really knew what they were doing.

Well, I think at least we can deduce from this that previous owner, or someone previous to him, was a crappy player.

Maybe he liked to have fun. The only one with a grin on their face when a ball or semi truck went thru that wide gap was the operator.

Yeah, let's just block up the middle completely so the ball never drains. Maybe we'll move on to plugging up wide outlanes at the same time.

    What fun!!!

    Rubber bands for the win.

All kidding aside the above mod is horrendous. These games were designed to be very challenging and they are. I agree the fun part is the challenge.
