Hey all,

been totally digging my new RCT (yeah, even the troll). However, there's one spot on the playifield that has looked quite blank from day one....

100_1081.JPG100_1081.JPG

See that area next to the shooter lane where the plastic is cut away to clear the yellow wireform? Looks very empty without any artwork and that plain blue background. On a recent visit to Cedar Point, I happened upon these little gems in the gift shop;

100_1082.JPG100_1082.JPG

It's a model of ones of the trains from their biggest coaster, Top Thrill Dragster. Clip off a couple of rubber bands, remove a screw and bingo! Train removed from track.

Next step is to figure a way to mount the train over the yellow rails so that a ball can still pass underneath...

So its not really a mod yet, just an idea....

Looking forward to the end result

#3 10 years ago

Your my new hero. I really would like to pick up a RCT.

#4 10 years ago

Hey, cool idea EV! Can't wait to see waht you come up with.

I was looking at these models when I was at Cedar Point a month ago.

DUDE! Want! Make some extras

So, it's now officially a mod.

Needed a way to keep it suspended above the yellow rails, so I hit upon the idea of using a couple of bits of wire coat hanger...

This is slick, and a killer idea. It looks great, though I don't love the look of that particular coaster; the dragster, that is.

This, however:

might find a home on my Hurricane...

I was thing of some kind of a topper for mine. May have to get one of these for the playfield.

#9 10 years ago

That is one cool mod. I'll be picking up my RCT in a couple weeks. Mind if I borrow your idea? Could you show a pic. of the way it is attached to the underside?

#10 10 years ago

That is pretty cool, but please paint it a different color! What would be really bad ass is if it flexed any and have it coming down that incline matching the angle of the yellow wire form.

#11 10 years ago

very cool, well done

#12 10 years ago

Now if you could find little people to put in the cars. I Googled Rollercoaster car models and could only find 1/87th size people. People would make it an "over the top" mod.

#13 10 years ago

great mod and one of the most fun coasters I've ever been on!

#14 10 years ago

Nice work EV!

#15 10 years ago
Quoted from Gov:

It came in three different colors; Green, Red, and Gold, all with red seats. I wanted the contrast between the body and the seats, so I chose the green.

Quoted from Gov:

The joints between the cars are rigid, so you'd have to do a bit of hacking and re-gluing to accomplish this...

I believe the company that makes those is http://www.coasterdynamix.com/
Their other coaster items are O-scale (ie Lionel train people should fit).

#17 10 years ago

That make me want a RCT just do mod it like that. Being a coaster and CP die hard fan.

#18 10 years ago

I really like RCT and have owned it twice...love the idea.
My mod focus was on the troll when I had it but this fits nicely.

#19 10 years ago

This looks great Echo! Hooked, what did you do to the troll?

#20 10 years ago

Cool idea EV....I very much like your choice of the coaster....RCT is already a colorful game anyway....looks cool. Something like this would be cool hovering above the end of my COMET's comet ramp.

I sold the first one before I got into mod. The second one I sold to a friend to make room.
I'll got to it some day
I wanted to make it a Rudy type area.

How about some lighting underneath it, or even better, have the ball trip some flashers as it rolls under the coaster ?

Also, the front end looks like it is begging for a custom decal of some kind.

Just a thought.

Just went to their site and they have no trains to buy.

#24 10 years ago

No but they used to at one point

The CP site I think sold the trains too once

#25 10 years ago

That looks fantastic! I might have to do that to my machine.

#26 10 years ago

My sister lives across the lake from CP, maybe she could visit the gift shop?

I was just on the CP site and they DO have them for sale, $19.95.

#29 10 years ago

Yep. My post above even includes a link to the store.

#30 10 years ago

Sure wish I could get one from our local park, Valley Fair, they have a couple of really good RC's there but nothing on their site.

Hey EchoVictor, I FINALLY picked up my RCT Sat. and got a couple dozen games on it, it's great. Just now I ordered the Mellineum coaster in blue from Cedar Point, they had it for $14.99 so by waiting till I got my game I saved $5 on the coaster, how about that. Now to find a white wire coat hanger. Thanks for your idea about the mod.
