So glad to be back with a RBION since I sold
my first nib Ripley year ago. What was I thinking? Finally picked one up last weekend.
Does anyone have any blue powder coat Ripleys out there? I don’t want to do yellow or orange. I’m looking at maybe doing a dark blue.

I did a dark hammered bronze finish. Close to matching the wire form lanes inside the machine, but a bit darker. I'm thrilled with the look.

Interesting... Can you attach a pic?

I dont have any pictures handy, but I know theres one in my profile gameroom pics. It's a close up of the color/finish. The color doesnt photograph well from afar.

That looks fantastic!

Thank you! I wish I could get a better picture of the machine as a whole, but the lighting down there isn't the best. So, from a distance, the hammered bronze appears black in photographs.

Any of you guys have also a Iron Maiden, how this 2 machine complement?

Can’t go wrong with an IMDN. Iron Maiden’s multiballs are nice and fast, Ripley’s fees more strategic with the ramps and then the super jackpot shot. Go for it

Hello,

as a member of this club, I would like to share with you our current fundraising to purchase 3 pinball machines for our local Children's Hospital, they would replace the actual machines I've placed with my wife.
Share the love and don't hesitate to PM me for details :

I have an odd issue on a game I picked up. Once I turn the game on and hit the magnet lock up the middle, the ball doesn't release. Once it cycles though and releases the ball, the game is good to go. It seems like I can play numerous games with no issues, it seems to be right at start up on the first hit. Any ideas? Optos work perfect, magnet works perfect and I've even switched balls out thinking they might be magnetized. Ideas please

I went to the Ripley's in Wisconsin Dells last week. Picked up a fun souvenir. It's a magnet with oil and water in it and floating eye balls that simulate bulging eyes. I was actually looking at places in the game where it could go and it looks like it would fit perfectly over the middle ramp, but I highly doubt I'll put it in there. Probably just have it at my desk at work to keep me entertained.

Mine has recently developed the same problem. 1st ball of 1st game. The magnet won't release the ball until a ball search is activated. After that, it's good to go. I replaced my optos about a year ago, so I'm pretty certain that's not the issue.

Added over 5 years ago:

Scratch that. It's now doing it randomly. Maybe 1 out of every 12 times the magnet is hit

Anyone got some spare used plastics? I had the art come off two of mine. Not looking to restore this machine just want it serviceable.

I want to say I've seen some spare sets come up for sale occasionally, so you should be able to find some if you keep a lookout.

My flippers have been sticking for awhile and the ball would also hang up at the shrunken head due to a chip there. This past weekend I rebuilt the flippers with the Guns & Roses coils from Pinball Life and put mylar over the magnet divot. No more shrunken head hangups and no more stuck flippers. The best thing is that I can now make all the ramps! Before, the flippers were seriously under powered and it was rare to make a ramp shot. Now it's awesome, like a whole new game...I'm getting into parts of the game that I was unable to see previously. I wish I'd have done this a couple of years ago! I can't recommend those coils enough. I left the upper right flipper alone, it seems to be fine.

Quoted from Jackalwere:

Standard coils for flipper should be more than powerfull enough for both flippers up both ramps.
The upper flipper has always been up for debate whether to beef it up or not.

Well they were replaced at some point, probably with inferior coils, or they are at end of life. I think my game was in the Seattle Pinball Museum awhile so I'm sure it's seen a lot of play.

Ripleys got ahold of me here in Orlando to fix and get there Rbion pins from different museums back up and playing , I picked them up at their main warehouse . There was some crazy and really cool stuff there getting worked on , refurbished , or transferred to other spots . Here a few pics I took . Check out the rubics cube and the millennium falcon made from matchsticks . Just thought I would share .

Hey guys, I have a Ripley's that just shorted out the ball lock transistor and coil. As I was getting the board out I noticed a couple of disconnected connecrors. Could anyone verify that these should be left out in a Ripley's, or where they are supposed to connect to if in use?

First two pictures are of connectors nicely tucked away in the wires harness left of the power driver board and the third is from below middle of the same board.

Cheers
/Micael

Am I the one only getting insane airballs on Ripleys in the club ? I get them flying everywhere, hitting posts flying up into the ramps, or right up the glass sometimes scaring the crap out of me. Even flying over the slingshot plastics and into the outlanes draining. Rubbers are next to new all transparent (love the leds shining through). I guess it might add to the airborne balls. Especially prone to go flying when hitting either of the posts guarding the believe it or not scoop...

Anyone experiencing the same ?

No you're not alone. I think mine are due to the weld being broke on the scoop but haven't verified.

#832 4 years ago

Ive got clear silicone on the slings/flippers and I don't get a lot of airballs. I would check that you have the right diameter rubbers. Too tight and it might cause more airballs. Make sure all your rubbers are centered on the post and placed correctly on your flipper bats. if it's too low, it creates a ramp for the ball.

Has anyone created a new mix of sounds and call-outs for this game?

Possibly not the kinda game to do this with but was just wondering what was out there!

#834 4 years ago
Quoted from Kenz:

Don't think people do that for Whitestar games. Plus there's no source material anyway.

#835 4 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Pinsound has a Whitestar interface adapter and can be installed into a Ripley's no problem at all.
The 'OST' or 'Original Sound Track' is available and loaded, works very well.
From there, using the Pinsound editor utility, you can replace sounds, music and call outs.

#836 4 years ago

Thanks, good to know!

But what do you mean by OST? RBION has a diff'rent soundtrack already?

After 4 years of collecting pins and owning about 50 at various times, I’m starting to cycle back to games I regret letting go of. I first played Ripley’s in early 2018 and was sure I wanted to own one. I traded for a very nice example and really enjoyed it, but decided to sell it after about 10 months. The stars aligned again and now I’m waiting on delivery of my 2nd RBION! Really looking forward to owning this great pin again. It’s strange and a little ridiculous sometimes, but the design and shots are a blast and the code is nicely done. Some cool looping, flowing shots, but a fair amount of stop-go too, which I like. Happy to be back in the club, mon!

JJP calls it “Quantum Haze,”. The powder coat painter can probably match it. Many colors with and without sparkle at Prismatic powders.com. Here is an example of a blue they offer.

After a year without one, Ripley’s has returned to our collection! Found a very nice example in AZ. I’ve been looking for several months. Sold a really nice, loaded example last year. Now we have a similar example. Needs a color DMD, down the road. I forgot the terrific shots and flow this pin has. Great use of spinners and magnets. Tons of shots. One of Pat Lawlor’s best. His “kitchen sink” pin. He threw in many of his signature features. This game has 6 pop bumpers yet doesn’t feel cramped. Underrated. We are very happy to bring this game back for a second visit. Hopefully it stays a very long time. It’s moving up my list of favorites.

Definitely needs a color DMD, this game looks great with one. That's coming soon, maybe 2-3 weeks. Had this pin twice now, and 45-50 other pins. This one is top 10 for me.
