Quoted from Yelobird:

Lead times for something as simple as a Molex plug are out weeks if not months so I'm personally not surprised there was a plan shift. .

You are kidding or exaggerating, right? we buy parts from all over the world, including about 20 different kinds of connectors, pins, circuit boards, leds, wire, etc. not one time during the pandemic, except at the very beginning when Chinese ports closed, have we had an issue getting anything. The post office is another issue, but parts were all available and still are. If you order from China you can get it in under 3 weeks via dhl, often just a few days. Specialized parts are another story as they often rely on a single supplier, but that wasn’t what your comment reflected.

Quoted from Yelobird:

So comparing your use of a dozen mod connectors is the same as a product with Thousands of parts?? Sorry not a realistic example. Never said you couldn't Get anything I said the lead times are off the charts and manufactured components were beyond the norm by a Lot. Most of my (real life, not pinball trinkets) manufacturers in fabricating have 4 month plus back logs. Good for America, not great for those with Amazon expectations.

Dozen? Nope, we buy in lots of hundreds or thousands, like 500 connectors or a thousand pins, or 5000 feet of wire, etc. We go through this stuff fast (a lot of my time is spent building parts inventory), but we also order very far in advance in case something does become hard to find or their is extended delivery time, or it’s just cheaper to buy in larger quantity knowing we will eventually use the parts. Some is direct from China or other places overseas, some comes from suppliers here in the US. I would think a pinball manufacturer would use this same strategy. Point is, if I can get it, I’d be shocked a pinball manufacturer couldn’t. Go on mouser or other parts supplier websites, there’s tens on thousands of pretty much any connector available in just a few days. I know some major pinball companies order from these sites. Again, if it’s a specialized part, that would be different, but generic pinball parts are all available and can be had in a matter of days, always could be throughout the pandemic. It can’t be an excuse for delayed production.

I haven’t followed deeproot very closely, hardly at all, but I thought they only sold like 150 of these games.

Quoted from Rarehero:

Pinball is not like other businesses, where competition drives prices down. In pinball, everyone will keep raising prices no matter how many players there are.

Ok, I’ll bite. Very few industries have been lowering prices in the past year. Have you tried buying a house or car lately? Food? Taking a vacation? Seems everywhere I turn the price is higher than it was a few months ago.

Demand for pinball is red hot, how can manufacturers not raise prices and take advantage? They will need those profits to survive the next downturn. I also would not say there is a lot of competition, there’s one major producer and three or four smaller players who can barely produce more than one game at a time.

Quoted from Jvspin:

Does anyone know who ends up paying when a credit card company refunds money? Does Amex stand in line with the other creditors?

Yes they do, and they are last as an unsecured creditor. They take the hit.

I’m curious under what policy a credit card company like Amex refunds a customer for a deposit (or paid in full) when the company doesn’t deliver the goods, particularly after some time has passed. I’d think the cc company would want to investigate before refunding. I don’t think it as easy as just calling the credit card company and saying I want my money back and the next day it’s in your account….or maybe (probably) I’m wrong here. It’s different than purchase protection AFAIK, such as when you buy something and it breaks or is stolen. Moreover, I thought there were limits on the protection in dollar terms and time, often like $1000 and 90 days. I couldn’t find anything on the Amex website. I’d be interested to learn about it. It might make me change my use of credit cards for large purchases.

Glad yelobird was able to get his funds back, seems Amex has some great customer service protection in place! I might have to get that card.

Quoted from Yesh23:

What happens is a charge back. Deeproot would have been set up with merchant processing (credit card processing). Typically they take a card as payment and within a day or so Deeproot would have gotten a deposit in their bank account. In this case on a charge back the money would be taken from Deeproots bank account by the merchant processor to give back to the credit card company.

Right, but what if there is no money in the account they have registered with the cc company or closed the account and moved the money elsewhere? Given the spending by RM that was detailed in the SEC brief, I’d guess that deposit money was long gone. Weren’t deposits taken over 8 months ago?
