Spiderman VE has only had 14 people rate it. It needs 15 people to make the Top 100.

One more rating needed!

On recent forum posts the VE is better than the original.
How much better remains to be seen.

Genuine raters are welcome to assess at:

Better than the original run? I've seen some say that, but I think there are plenty like me that don't think it is better. On the new one, toys are worse, callouts are generally worse (JJ is sorely missed), art is a lateral move. The DOTS are oftentimes better. That's the one bright spot of the VE, IMO. For literally 2x as much money as you could get one new on the original run, it's a pretty mediocre effort.

I very much agree with vireland plus the quality of the playfield of the original run was better too.

The ramp decals are delaminating on the VE

Kinda like LotR at #5 and LotR LE at #34? Lets not make the top 100 anymore ridiculous than necessary...

#6 2 years ago

We've got to play it before we can rate it. I think some (mine at least), perhaps many of the SMVE orders were bumped off the assembly line for other games. So, whatever that number of games may be, still aren't in the hands of buyers.

It might not even show up on the list. Spider-Man black should be at #7, but it isn't on the top 100. You have to select the game and look at the rating to find out

Still waiting for mine to show up...

Fully agree. Well said.

IMHO the rating system kind of stinks from my point of view. It's opinion and my opinion doesn't really reflect other opinions. I already rated the SM, liked it enough to buy the VE.

Also I have the IMVE and I don't see two ratings for the original IM and the VE maybe two similar. I think SM and SMVE are in the same category, so I'm deferring another rating.

Sorry

Anyone with the original will say theirs is better. I think everyone else would prefer the VE.

Better art, lights and dots.

Sorry

Totally agree. They're the same game for the most part.. play wise.

It's the same game. I own a VE and I think the ratings should just go with the original SM.

#13 2 years ago

Same game. I tried the VE and actually liked the sound better on the original. I was never a fan of the original's art but I hate ultimate spiderman. Dots are better but who has the time to look at dots when playing? Other than that, like I said, SAME GAME!

EDIT: Snarky comment removed

I'd vote but I've only played each one once so I can't really give a proper rating. The voting system is skewed in a few regards but my favorite is seeing people who've never even made a post but created an account to rate a game a 2 and another a solid 10. The top 100 reminds me of the stock market with lots of pumping and dumping.

A big part of the ratings is the art package, sound, dots, etc. which leads to dramatically different scores. The pinsiders that have rated both games sometimes have a wide range between each version. It really shows how flawed the system is. The difference between a 9.000 and a 7.000 on the pinside 100 is better than #1 to below #240! Using those ratings, one version of this game is better than every game that's ever existed and the other is worse than data east batman. Oh and The Amazing Spider-Man is in between them....

Pinsider 1 SM 9.01 VE 7.058

Pinsider 2 SM 7.712 VE 9.08

Pinsider 3 SM 8.389 VE 9.437

Pinsider 4 SM 8.58 VE 7.715

Pinsider 5 SM 7.016 VE 6.834

Pinsider 6 SM 8.355 VE 7.337

Pinside advises: "This game has now received its 15th rating this week. It will be included in next weeks Pinside Pnball Top 100 calculation."

Lol, someone rated the VE with a 3.4 yesterday but has the original rated in the 9's. They must love them some Tobey Maguire.

#19 2 years ago

Jgentry interesting

Another reason these reviews leave a lot to be desired .

#20 2 years ago

They should adjust the ratings system to remove the top 10% and bottom 10% of the reviews in order to get a more accurate rating.

I say this as someone who rated Spidey VE close to a 10.

SMVE debuted at No. 2 in the Top 100.
A 3.4 score or two will knock the VE back into the pack somewhat, especially with a small number of ratings posted to date.

Good idea! Doesn't something like that already happen to discount the impact of those like Mr 3.4, who deliberately want to skew the results?

I'm guessing that was the point of the rating. I didn't look but you can be certain it was someone that owns and original. I can see rating one or the other slightly different based on art and call outs. Maybe a 1.5 difference either way based on preference. In the end even if you like the call outs and art better on the original no one with any sense would rate the dots and lighting as worse. So if you prefer the original call outs and art you would still have a hard time rating the VE much lower if you are honest about how you do it. The modes and scoring are essentially the same even if they have names different, the shot map is the exact some with some tweaks to make the VE more durable and not have hang ups. The VE has nice trim, a shaker, better lighting, cliffy protectors, better dots, and better looking villain sculptures which should make up for lower ratings on sounds and art even if you prefer the original. I haven't rated the original but if I did I couldn't honest rate it more then 1 point lower then the VE and I hate those 3 movies and the original call outs.

In the end it doesn't matter as the ratings are nonsense but I always find it funny how petty people are when it comes to rating games.
