Anybody built or bought a bartop arcade with a raspberry pi? If so can you list the resources you used.

I have one, but since the release of the mini nes, snes, megadrive etc. those companies no longer allow old roms to be distributes for free. But I got most of my games from emuparadise.

Anyway, there are also sites out there where you can dowload entire images of retropie including games. One such site is called Arcade Punks, so you might want to check that out

I got one of these for my birthday https://www.pishop.us/product/pimoroni-picade-with-screen/

found a 256gb image for it with 26k games on it. Been a lot of fun so far

Ok here is what I got:
https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/picade (mine has 2 buttons on each side but is out of stock everywhere) $156
    I used this Pi kit: https://www.amazon.com/CanaKit-Raspberry-Premium-Clear-Supply/dp/B07BC7BMHY $55
    I used this card: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IC0GJKE $80

    I used this image: https://www.arcadepunks.com/256gb-retropie-4-4-ultimate-pi-3-b-image-wolfanoz/

Took a couple of hours to build the kit.

Took half a day to download the image, another half to extract it and and another half to burn the image to the card.

I only had access to 1 machine with enough hard drive space to process this file.

    Good luck

Can you post pics with a person in front for scale? Thing looks tiny!

I build cabinet kits of you're interested. I sell a DIY assemble yourself kit for $85.00 plus shipping. You provide your own t-molding and plastic. These fit a 20" monitor with Vesa mounts. I'll tell you the best monitors to fit them as well.

That's pretty small. But then again I don't have the space for a larger bartop...This thread certainly has me thinking

    Thanks!

I have a bartop version with a trackball added that has 28,000 games. Nothing is as good as the original but I don't have the space or the funds to buy the originals.

I thought about setting it on my work bench when it's cleared off. Haven't had to do any large repairs lately *knockonwood*

This is going to be a xmas present for my son. I appreciate all response.

Here’s mine. Built from a kit from Gameroom Solutions (GRS). Raspberry pi running retropie. Tons of arcade and console games.

Mudflaps, ballpark $ figure to build? Looks great.

Kits start at $85 and up. Factor in decals, the pi, t-molding, buttons, monitor, amp, speakers, marquee, lights, etc. Mine was several hundred bucks after everything.

Ironically, the cheapest part is the pi itself.

Are you looking at under 5 bills?

    #23 5 years ago

Arcade without CRT is just not right . . . .

    Quoted from shovelhed:

It was probably hovering around 5-600, give or take. I tried to budget carefully, but it adds up fast. Definitely worth it, though. Gameroomsolutions.com has almost everything you’ll need.

I have several dedicated all restored machines. My favorites from when i was a kid. (Double Dragon, Heavy Barrel and zaxxon) Each one was sourced with original nos parts.
This project is for my son to just play with his buddys or have me whip him

Bump for anyone who can help me with installing hyperpie 2 and whats the difference between retro and hyperpie 2 ?

    #27 5 years ago

    https://github.com/retropie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki
Use the getting started section. Not too bad once u get started.

Some of the emulation station themes look great. Go for a nice clean theme. The pi is not super powerful so I think you may want to avoid a ton of animation in the menus. Looks like it slows it down some.
