Quoted from markmon:

Does my one-of-a-kind iron maiden conversion count?

Yes, it counts, although I think the 1981 Stern Iron Maiden (~1200) is a tough one to find now as well.
I really doubt there are more than a couple hundred left.

For me, currently, AGBGoaWT, German export NIB warehouse acquisition from the early 2000s with a ton of NOS factory parts. (~350, Mr. Pinball 2016)
Fireball (EM) is certaining less than 1000 now, probably 650 or so across the world.

Memories...
Voltan was pretty low, King Tut as well.
Mystery Castle less than 200?
Knockout from Gottlieb, 1950 is probably ridiculous, less than 100 EASY.

I think the truly rarest I ever owned was a Spooky (with Tootsie Roll animated "Mr. Owl") from Zaccaria that I bought in German in 1990s. (<40-60), although most of the Zaccaria games had low production values, mostly unknown.
There are less than 10 left.

Probably lots more over a quarter century I missed though, many oddities.
A couple of missed opportunities as well such as BBB before the reproduction (~14, before the -3 before the fire and other two losses), KK, Krull, and LNM.

As the old pinball saying goes, "rare" does not equal "good".

Quoted from Chitownpinball:

Thungder man...is that a bounty hunter retheme? Had the gottlieb apron...very cool.
The ramp exits on that moon light are crazy! What does that just drain your ball when you hit a ramp? LOL

It is a partial "copycat" design, but TM is not a retheme or "kit". It was unique.

There are more Fire Birds out there. Steve Charland has one in his GTB SS80 collection. He is only missing one machine of the entire lineup, and I think most people can guess the title with owners "death grips" on them.

There are others as well, but not many.
There is a Night Moves cocktail sitting at PAGG that was also Steve's, owned now by another friend.

Quoted from Whysnow:

Which game is he. Missing from the collection?

The mighty "Krull".
I actually was somewhat surprised.
I was talking about this to him about the historical fiasco extraordinaire shenanigan at PAGG.
I was sure after the last 10+ years he would have been able to acquire one from one of the five owners I know, and he knows as well.
(He is still pretty serious about acquiring this title)
"Death grips" continue...
Tim Arnold should sell him his game just out of personal courtesy of his contributions to the Star System 80 repair knowledge for the last 25+ years alone.
He was one of the people who saved the games from going in landfills.
Clay republished much of his work in his guides (with credit of course).
The three others I know are in Europe and Australia, which I do not know personally.
One was lost in a flood, which was not PAPA, but I cannot directly remember where.
One is still missing in action, probably hiding in a warehouse somewhere when one of two popped up for sale around 15 years ago.

He owns EVERY single other game, including duplicates of hard to find games like Circus.
He ditched his "Night Moves" to another collector last year (and then was sold again to another collector friend of mine), because it was a cocktail, and he did not want it, even though it uses the same board set and was produced by GTB for International Concepts (one of two games).

Quoted from Milltown:

68 bally .. op pop pop .. my 1st pin..

Long live Ted Zale "zipper flipper" title machines.
One of only 30 pinball games to use the feature.
He designed 19 out of 30 of the total games.

Another nod to Christian Marche as the primary artist as well.

Old photo, still relevant, still owned.
Fits nearly anywhere.

103 production run, #87
I don't consider sample/prototype games that were fully produced as part of this category.

Quoted from BeaglePuss:

Prototypes and samples are clearly more rare than Punchy the Clown, but that would cheapen his contribution to this thread. It’s easy to disqualify things to better fit your own agenda.

I have no agenda except education.

Rarity is dependent on physical independent numbers of built games, not trying to roll it up into subcategories of a formally produced one. This is the same manner that sites such as the IPDB/IPSND operate and I support.

I own prototypes, samples, and low export versions of games which allow people to undertand the documented differences of title design. In some cases nearly 25 years or many more, when titles were developed.

If a game was actually made, it defines it is part of a title. A sample (test) game is still part of the initial production run, as is an early production. If it was not formally produced, it fits this category as true rarity, meaning a full prototype, and certainly qualifies. I have written articles and threads on PinSide that explains these differences of all types of categories of games.

As a direct example which I explained briefly in one post, Gator version Alligator both "rare" games in my inventory. Alligator is very rare export (especially today), Gator generally rare Ted Zale zipper flippers. However, there are physical differences in the components of both games other than artwork, which might look identical otherwise to an enthusiast. They are formally classified as different games for this reason, just like an EM version of a large production SS game. Most people never even realize these aspects today, as games continue to age and we are in a new age of collectors, and I document for history. However, neither of these specific titles qualify for this thread based on original production numbers made, hence they were not formally presented.

Today, the concept of most "limited edition" games are examples of "artificial rarity", which in some cases have little if nothing different except cosmestics.

Keep flipping.
