I just picked up a 1982 Bally Rapid Fire machine. All I could find were some random threads with technical questions. Didn't see a dedicated club thread for the game where a lot of knowledge about it could be kept in one spot. Thought it would be a good idea to start one.

There only seem to be pictures of the outside of the game and one showing some of the boards. Haven't found any that show insides of the game and all the mechanics of it. Would be good to add some on the entry for the game on ipdb.org and Pinside.

The game I bought works but needs a little TLC. Normal cleanup and shop job for sure. Will also replace some lamps and freshen up the boards. I've noticed some extra balls lying in the cabinet. The game seems to run out so it probably needs those and may still be short. Any good sources to get a fresh set of the 5/8" balls for it?

I used to have one . I like the oddball games, but definitely would need to be in a somewhat large line up.

Definitely a different game and one that seems to get some bad reviews from those that rate it as a pinball machine. As a gun game with electronic scoring it seems pretty cool. Agree that it works better for people with several other games. I’ve got a mix of a few arcade games too so this fits in with mix as something different.

Once I get it running 100 percent I want to understand all the current rules and options.

Hope that other owners join this thread. It would be great to hear if there are any common issues with these and what spares should be on hand to keep it going.

Ok just for something crazy grabbed one as well cheaply. Not sure it'll last long, but have more and more younger kids of friends coming over and they might enjoy it. I assume the extremely noisy fan is an aftermarket mod that I'll have to replace or disconnect. Sooooo noisy.

Anyone have tips for adjusting the firing mech on one of these so the balls shoot straight? Mine seems to fire all over the place and has no accuracy at all.

How does the firing pin look? They mushroom badly apparently so may need filing down to flat and level.

These came with a fan which I believe is to keep the gun assembly cool. Maybe it just needs to be lubricated. Not matter what this game is noisy. But I’ve had guests over that played that multiple times and weren’t as interested in the regular pins. Good for variety.

Rats. Took out the playfield to get all the lights working (lots of socket holder corrosion) and that's fine. Now seems not getting power to the solenoid to fire the gun. Switches registering in test (and sound during gameplay). All connectors on the solenoid driver board and all test points measuring correctly. Schematics from IPDB are a bit sparse. Any ideas? Thanks

Yay I found it! Lots of continuity testing. Bloody 40 year old wires!

It seems that the game was rushed into production and doesn’t have the same level of documentation as the other Bally games. Would like to find more documents on it if they exist or came out as later tech notes. Haven’t checked all their parts books but may be worth looking there.

Bit of help please. All lights come on during test, but on both sides the final 2 tank lights don't come on during play. Makes it hard to know when you are about to lose a base!

It would help to get some reference photos in the upper part of the head to show how the harness is run and which ones come up through the center rectangular hole and what ones run through the round hole by the hinge. Trying to reassemble one and want to ensure the harness is routed correctly. Anyone have photos to add to this thread?
