So this is an odd one.

I recently picked up a Flintstones. Rebuilt flippers. Repaired all issues that were existing and it has been playing perfectly for weeks.

Out of nowhere today, occasionally when pressing the right flipper, plunging the ball or when the time machine motor kicks on the game will score 800,000 points.

It is intermittent.

In switch test banging on the playfield or cabinet does not trigger any switch.

Nothing looks out of place under the playfield.

Has anyone experienced something like this before?

This isn’t my first game, and all coils, switches and controlled lamps function properly.

The random scoring is making it hard to diagnose as none of the above things that trigger the scoring do so consistently.

I’d appreciate any thoughts.

I think it may be a flaky drop target opto.

I will be pulling the mechanisms tonight and will rebuild and reflow the boards.

Pretty sure it is one of the drops and one of the optos is internally failing.

Found a few other similar posts about it.

I will confirm tonight and order parts as needed to repair the boards I believe could be the culprits.

All fixed.

Rebuilt both drop target banks for good measure. Reflowed solder at all points on both boards and cleaned all the optos.

No more random scoring.
