Hello everyone. Just picked up my first machine. Picked up a gottlieb Tag Team. Games in decent shape, flippers are all strong drop targets all work but I’m having a weird issue. When the lower bank of drop target are down and I hit the flippers it registers a hit to a drop target and accumulates points as well as builds the bonus, which hitting drops is supposed to do to build the bonus. Not sure where the cross is? As soon as they reset the problem goes away. Dirty switches?

Yes, there is a switch there that is getting registered just by the vibration of the flipper activation.

The switch likely just needs some adjustment.

Do you think I should rebuild the drop target assembly or just get in there and start doing some fine tune bending? I’m pretty new to working on machines since this is my first, but I’m fairly technical.

NO - you have a switch that is a gapped a tiny bit too close, and the vibration of the flippers is causing it to make contact. Just take a look at them and see if u can determine which one it is - that's all......fine tuning, not rebuilding.......

if it ain't broke......

Gotcha. So when the drop targets are down they should be open and not touching correct.

A leaf adjustment tool is a great addition to your pinball tool collection: https://www.pinballlife.com/ultimate-leaf-adjuster-tool.html

Right on thanks. I’ll order on for sure.

I think I found the problem. It looks like there are two machine screws missing out of the plate that mounts the drop targets assembly to the playfield and has a fair amount of wiggle. It’s probably enough to trigger those switches. I’m going to have to figure out the screw size and replace them and hopefully that does the trick.
