I believe my ramps are original. I did not have a skipping problem until after I shopped the game (hardest game I've shopped to date). I adjusted the tension of the screws that hold the ramp flap down (loosened them in my case) and that seemed to do the trick for me -- made the incline more gradual instead of a sharp bump at the ramp entry. I think I even got that tip from someone here on pinside back around May or June of 2011. Ball used to fly into the skulls and land on the plastic!
Another thing to try is adjusting the incline of the pin, making it a little more steep. In my case, I knew it had to be something I did since it was fine before I tinkered with it. I'd be willing to play the game at a slightly higher incline if it kept the ball on the ramp.
SS is great game!
