Looking at someone else's shooter lane gate (https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/radical-club-only-skaters-welcome/page/3#post-3661440), it looks like the wireform on the example I have is missing the bit that stops it swinging back into the guide. The ball cannons into it a fair bit so I guess that's what's nudging the guide out of place; it's slowly eating a hole in the guide. Another thing on the to-do list.

I already have a AA holder lying around so I'll use that to remote the batteries off the board. Given it's been repaired previously I'm half surprised they went with another on board holder rather than remote. Then again, given the quality of the other repairs...

That's a sweet offer, but somehow I suspect the shipping from AU to US and back would be more than getting it done locally.
