6 months after helping my buddy Boosterfive get a Radical! for his first pin, I finally found one for myself. Almost 800 miles round-trip driving to Berlin, Germany and I rescued this neglected machine from a disgusting storage garage. Playfield has some slight wear, it's filthy dirty, but the boards, cabinet and ramps are all in good shape. Happy to have joined the club!

Quoted from Rocanich:

Hi Radicalers, my Radical is missing the backbox light baffle. Does anyone has a 3D printable light baffle? I'm in Germany. That makes it very difficult to order the light baffle in the US actually.
Does anybody know how many diamond plate fields were produced? My Radical has it
Cheers
Roland

Hi, I finished the drawing and 3D print for the missing Light Baffle.
Thanks to oldskool1969 for sending some pictures as a basis for my construction!

Last open question...how many Diamond Plate versions were produced?

Greetings
Roland

Just remember as there is already someone reproducing legally. Only make a copy for yourself as it is your hobby and you don't plan to sell them!

For sure...I do not have the time to produce and sell something. But I’m a bit confused...can a copyright be on something like a light baffle? Is it allowed to share the drawings for free and personal use? I think so.

just realized my radical is missing the metal bracket for the end of the vert ramp causing the ball to jump the lane switch. Any idea where I could find one or am I shit out of luck and should try to fabricate something myself? and if the later is my only option can someone send me a good picture of what exactly it’s supposed to look like? Thanks y’all

Freeplay 40 reproduces that ramp. I assume it includes that piece.

I don't see that part listed in the manual either. I'd try making one. At least you can buy the rubber stop new.

#760 3 years ago

Also, get switch slot protectors from Cliffy.

The bracket is completely separate to the ramp:

Thanks for the close up pic! Interesting that the part number isn’t listed in the manual... guess I’ll try to fabricate something. If by chance anyone has a spare original laying around I’d love to buy it. Thanks again y’all.

If anyone is interested in trading, I have a nice SOF for trade with a prototype translite. Low serial # game, all boards/stickers matching. Can meet halfway and bring cash. (I have no problem with a decent Radical! being a 4K game.)

#764 3 years ago

Here’s my hopefully temporary fix for my missing bracket. It’s definitely not perfect but I’m kinda surprised to say its working great and was pretty easy to make. That being said I’m still on the look out for an original. If anyone somehow has an extra please let me know. thanks y’all!

I'm getting close to testing my new forming machine with the larger heater. Have just secured donor ramps for the remaining pieces on Radical so I can get started on the molds.

Now if only CPR can manufacture a run of playfields.

We should all hound CRP . Even though it had low-production numbers, they reproduced the translight.

I'd be in for a new playfield.

Has anyone found a solution to the ball getting stuck in the inlane switch slot when it drops out of the right ramp? I've adjusted the ramp to drop a bit lower, but once in a while it still seems to get hung up here.

Cliffy lane protector should do the job or you done have the right pitch set.

#778 3 years ago
Quoted from oldskool1969:

Angle would be the first thing I'd check. Radical is unusual in that the manual says 7° and it still plays well a little above that.

Hey guys!

So I joined the club yesterday.
Anyway, my biggest problem so far are the displays.
The left display has some segments missing and the right display have segments stuck on and maybe a couple missing.
This is my first system 11 pin and I have previously only owned games from the wpc era and forward.

What I have tried so far is cleaning and reseatimg all the connectors on the display and PCB with no luck.
If anyone can help me I sure would appreciate it.

I have now also reflow solder on all parts of the displays, well at least all parts that where big enough for me not to screw up.

The strange thing is, in test mode the left display works almost flawlessly with just some minor ghosting, and all parts light up but as soon as you I go out of test mode some segments are not lighting up and I have ghosting. The left display is working like it should except the half part of the middle row.

Take a look at the attached images.

Starting touch-ups on my bally radical. Learning as I go. Won't be a "Hep" restoration or anything. Hopefully somebody will learn from my future mistakes.

Hi all
I am making spinner decals for Bally/Williams stuff that have these holographic decals - many games from the 80's and 90's. In general they are $2.50 shipped in the US for a pair and $4.00 shipped international for a pair. Shipping stays the same if you buy more.

PM me if interested.

Bout halfway into touch-ups on Radical. Making some mistakes along the way. Totally amateur but once its all shiny, and I can read the inserts say, might feel a lil better. Found out its easier to carefully airbrush the background color and re-draw the fore-ground details.

Making a topper. I’d like to light it up and have it be interactive with the game. Can someone electronically inclined tell me what flat LED strip to buy and where to connect it in the machine? Thanks!

I keep thinking about a deck topper that has lit individual Radical letters that tie to the lamps where it's spelled out on the playfield.

I believe those RADICAL lights are part of a lamp matrix so I dont think it wouldnt work to just wire extra bulbs in series with them. When I tried a similar thing on my High Speed a while back (to illuminate a full size traffic light) I somehow blew up a driver on the MPU.

It should be possible with an Arduino though. Wire the RADICAL lamps to digital inputs of the Arduino and when the input goes high (or low) it energizes a pin to then turn on the extra lamps. Might need a TIP122 or similar to drive the lamp itself, but it is definitely possible.

I've had good success connecting extra light sockets to controlled lamps to light scoops. For instance on Firepower, I put lamps underneath clear saucer eject shield and wired them to the lamp that turns on under the green insert to let you know that lock is available. I put red LEDs in them and look pretty awesome.

#798 2 years ago

Does anyone have a link to custom rule cards for this game?

#799 2 years ago
Quoted from Clytor:

It's good to hear about your lamp piggy-backing success and indeed, I have done the same on my Twilight Zone and wired additional lights on playfield toys to existing circuits.

It makes me think that perhaps my previous issue was perhaps confusing the direction of the blocking diode during the High Speed meltdown. I should pull the wiring diagram out again and revisit the issue. I have aspirations in the future to control these traffic lights via the controlled lamps on the playfield. It will require a few amps so an additional circuit will probably be necessary.

But getting back to RADICAL, I guess it would work quite easily as long as one uses a standard 6v lamp and there aren't any shorts created by the new wiring.

Those are huge! Ha. It seems like you'd need an awful lot of current to run those. Do the traffic lights run on LEDs? Maybe you should try using a relay tied to the playfield lamp and use a dedicated power source to run the traffic lights?
