I ordered several sheet of glass to have available at the Saratoga Pinball & Arcade Show next week.

Since I needed a good way to transport that quantity of glass, I sketched up some plans and built a rack over the last couple days to fit in my vehicle.

The pool noodles are stapled on. The pair of 2x4's at the ends of the rack are bolted on for easy removal.

This ended up being about $80 worth of wood and hardware.

Once the glass is on, I'll throw some blankets around them and use ratchet straps to secure them. I'll also screw down some blocks of scrap wood to the 3 2x4's to prevent the glass from sliding out, but I can't do that until I see how much space will be needed for the glass.

I'm going to pick up the glass this afternoon, so hopefully all goes well.

The only issue I see at the moment is that I probably could have made the base a couple inches wider since there was a bit more wiggle room than what I measured for.

I suggest some kind of rubber on the bottom boards. 1. to prevent slipping during transport and 2. to reduce shock as you go over bumps.
The easiest way to break tempered glass is to wack it on the edge.

I was debating about that. Wasn't sure if it would be necessary or not.

In any case, the rack worked well and all the glass was safe & sound. Now I'm putting castors on the cart so I can wheel it around. The downside is that I had to unload it first.

Two racks would probably be ideal, lol

Well, I encountered an issue that I didn't consider earlier since I hadn't originally intended to put wheels on this rack.

The 3 boards at the base of the rack are 38" long. So, the rack can easily fit in and out of my vehicle with plenty of room to spare, which was the original purpose.

However--since I put castors on it, I then realized that standard doorways are only 32" wide.

So, I can only go through entrances with double doors--unless I can wiggle through diagonally (Diagon Alley? ). Luckily, the room I put it in has exterior double doors, so I can go back outside if I need to.
