Hi Folks,

Really need your help here. I have a r911 that I'm refurbing.
When a ball enters the "trap" the helicopter travels to the "Golf Tee"
and smacks into the ball and continues to try to fly past the "Golf Tee".
It only grabs the ball for a second then drops it.

It will stay parked above the golf tee and not return to the top of the machine.
I replaced the main drive motor as it was shot.
I replaced the lift link on the golf tee.
I ohmed out the wire harness to the copter.

What am I missing? Stop opto seems to work. I put a card in it when the copter is in route and the copter stops.

Anyone else have this prob?

Thanks,

Milton

Anyone have a r911 with this prob and solve it?

Can someone tell me what happens when you activate heli directional relay? (when in service mode)
Does the copter move? Mine moves in forward but does not return. When I activate the directional
relay I can here it "click" but the copter does not move.
Can someone verify this is correct?

Thank you for your time,

Milton

Hey ralphwiggum,

Yep, brand new rubber. The thing is I think it should return at least when the game is over.

Hi ralphwiggum,

Yes I tested the tranny. It tests ok. tested q24 q25 and q26.
That was my first guess after the wire harness. (which I just took off again and ohmed out)
I will check the motor tomorrow and see if I'm getting voltage to it.

Nope- this is the last prob.
Jimmy from the PBR said "saved the best for last!"
I will post the resto pics when I get the copter goin'.

Hi kguenther6,

I cannot figure out how to test them in the switch test. It is automatic
and does not stop on each switch but goes through all of them. I will go through this
again.

But when I put a card in the switch when the copter is in route it stops.
I think the problem is in the "directional relay" path. I don't think it is getting
any power to reverse direction. I will check power at the motor later when I get some time.

Thanks for the reply!

Quoted from kguenther6:

Then you can block the opto switches with something to see if they register

I will try the above and report. I have some errands to run (GRR!) and then should be able
to put some time in.

Thanks for the idea!

Ok, I do not have power going to the helicopter when I activate the "directional relay".
Where is the solenoid 24 located? IF it is not the solenoid then transistor?

This leads me to believe the transistor Q25 is bad. It seems to test ok.

Quoted from ralphwiggum:

Do you have schematics available to you, they will help tremendously

I have the owners manual which has schems.
The previous motor was not burned up. Gearbox worn! Made a sound like a banshee!
I think I will order a transistor and replace.
Unless you have a better idea?

I ordered the trans.

#19 10 years ago

Just to verify: There are two motors on the gearbox. One forward-one reverse.
Correct?

I get power on one of the motors but not the other. I think the other is for reverse and
should get power on when drive circuit Q25 directional relay is energized?

Is my theory correct or should I step away from the pipe?

Milton

Quoted from ralphwiggum:

That sounds about right...

That I should step away from the pipe! LOL!

I pulled the board and was going to put in new tranny but was able to see well enough
to test it. Transistor is good. When I engage the "directional solenoid" I can hear something
pull down in the cab but I do not get power to bottom copter motor.

Any ideas?

Ok! Found the "directional relay" (Mounted under play field) Broken wire coming off relay!
Now the copter goes BOTH directions! The copter goes too far and knocks the ball away but
I'm on the right track!

Hi Tim,

Yep, Burning building in place. I am done testing for tonight.

OK- I'm close.
Could someone look at the helicopter wiring harness and give me the correct
wiring from the plug to the 4 terminals on the helicopter?

Mine has been replaced and I think it is incorrect. The plug has 2 rounded prongs and 2 square prongs. Looking AT the plug the top right corner is rounded. The bottom left corner is rounded.
I need the pinouts for this plug. (I.E. Top right is + on copter board)

Thank you for your time,

No IT IS NOT the harness.
Lost my reverse again. No power getting to the reverse motor.
Power at solenoid. Solenoid is pulling in.

So now I lost reverse and the magnet.
I am close to giving up.

I re-soldered everything. Cleaned everything and now it works like a champ!

Hi Tim,

I have reproduced the car pf wear area. I will apply it later.
I also have some "custom" blades" that I have to apply.
They look like the outside "cityscape", with one side on fire.

The cab is coming along nicely. I will post more pics later.
I have some "e.l. wire" to put on and more.....

Any non fb pics? I got rid of fb a few years ago...

I will start a new thread here with pics!

Quoted from tim_sanderson:

I'd love to see how you're doing that. Is it a decal-type thing you've made, instead of painting it on?

I would like to take credit for it but Chad @ C&K Designs did it! Yes it is a decal. The rest of the pin is all free hand. You will see that I am not a bad artist and airbrusher when I post the "R911 Resto". He also did the custom blades you will see.
My ideas, his talent! IF I could do what he can do it would be "MODS GALORE!". Custom backglass, custom cabs, sky is the limit!

Hey o-din,

Check out this thread: http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/r911-resto-started

Yes, it is the same machine! Let me know what you think. Tell Evan to take a look too.

The helicopter is now 100% functional!
I have one bad opto that I have a replacement for but have not installed.
It works 99% but once in awhile it does not see the interrupter.
