Isn't this just a place holder picture for pre orders? Stern has not shown the final topper as of yet. Correct? Am I missing something here?

Bah humbug. Pass big time. For $500 somebody could make a hologram projecting version that would be amazing
Quoted from PanzerFreak:$500 and the there's an exposed screw head right on the front of R2D2, that looks terrible and tacky for what is supposed to be a high end item. For $500 the screw on R2 should have been recessed and a cap colored to match the paint put over it. Same goes for the front screws.
Also the base could have at least been colored with a weathered look to resemble Lukes X-Wing that R2 sits in. Maybe it's the lighting in the pic but the arms look like a very cheap white plastic that doesn't match the body.
Sorry for all the complaints lol. Still looking forward to seeing it in a new video before deciding on whether or not to buy it.

We simply don't know if that image represents the final, polished product. You're making assumptions with something Stern hasn't officially released.
Quoted from kermit24:No. Kiss topper is $400. GOT and GB toppers are $500 also. These will typically include a node board that ties the topper into the complete package with specific code for the tooper. I have not seen a game interactive topper go for $200. Maybe an aftermarket one that is tied to a flasher or something. I agree these are a lot. But so are these machines as a whole.
now it seems kiss topper is $900 according to pinball life!
Quoted from benheck:The shape of R2's head is messed up. WTF?
And the typical Ben Heck “I’m better than everyone” response
Quoted from joefox22:And the typical Ben Heck “I’m better than everyone” response
I'm sorry that my ability to compare shapes offends you.
Quoted from joefox22:And the typical Ben Heck “I’m better than everyone” response
Ehhhh Ben IS better!
Quoted from benheck:I'm sorry that my ability to compare shapes offends you.
LOL
You see! He is better
Not that I don't care about everyone's opinion on this subject, I'm just here to find out when the topper is actually coming out so I can finally have one on my machine where it belongs. Actually, come to think of it, I really don't care about everyone's opinion on this subject.
Quoted from benheck:[quoted image]
and that folks is why the topper isn't worth $500 lol. Looks like R2's projector has been replaced with a phillips screw. Hopefully this isn't the final version of the topper, maybe the screw is where the projector piece screws on...
I understand it costs money to develop a product, to do injection molding, to pay off greedy ass Disney, and that it's all compounded by needing to do all of this for a limited audience. These are small runs, and you want to recoup your sunk costs. In that sense the costs are what they are. I'm working on something now that I'd like to eventually sell, and while it won't be $500 it probably won't be cheap because costs are costs are costs. So I'm not getting out the pitchforks.
But ... for $500 I expect a product that has thought and attention put into it. Regardless of the costs of the molds etc, if you're selling it for that much you 'owe' the buyer something, imo. And on the list of "things to put thought into" are get the shape of the freaking centerpiece droid right. Good lord. This is one of the most iconic Star Wars characters of all time. And I know that's an overused word, but effing hell, it's R2D2, if he's not iconic then what is? I'd never want to look up at that squashed thing, it's hideously out of proportion. It's just flat out wrong.
Unless that's fixed I can't see why you'd want to buy this, unless you're not really a Star Wars fan and just want something to stick on a pinball you happen to own.
Quoted from Aurich:... and just want something to stick on a pinball you happen to own.
Like 90% of all toppers sold.
Quoted from John_I:Not that I don't care about everyone's opinion on this subject, I'm just here to find out when the topper is actually coming out so I can finally have one on my machine where it belongs. Actually, come to think of it, I really don't care about everyone's opinion on this subject.
BINGO!!!!!!
Quoted from Hazoff:Not defensive just tired of the same bullshit over and over, the OP's question is a stupid as the answers. "Is it worth $500" my opinion doesn't matter and I would leave money out of it, I don't like toppers period but all I'd say is either "looks great I want one" or "what a piece of crap not interested" people who bring money into it with this hobby piss me off. We are all buying overly expensive toys and I love it.
You’ll never win Hazeoff. You’re outnumbered.
It’s internet man. Not real life. None of us would ever have a face to face like these.
Quoted from Aurich:Unless that's fixed I can't see why you'd want to buy this, unless you're not really a Star Wars fan and just want something to stick on a pinball you happen to own.
You are assuming everyone:
a) Notices the proportion differences (I honestly never would've until it was pointed out)
b) Care at all once it has been pointed out (I don't).
A topper is just a decorative piece of plastic that sits on top of an already super expensive toy, why get all in a bunch about it? Don't like it, don't buy it. Personally I am still considering it, proportiongate notwithstanding, once I see the final product and how interactive it is with the game.
If I do get one, I will secretly still consider myself a Star Wars fan, even though the quality of the last few movies are making me reconsider if that is still true...
Quoted from Xaqery:The left is a picture from the Stern Arcade.
[quoted image]
I'm going to go out on a limb, and say the screw is just a cover-up of where the projector eye goes. I bet this isn't anything more than a rough build, and this thing will have a functional projection out of where that screw is. No possible way that screw is on the final product.

I think your probably right, something is holding up the process of getting this final product approved.
Probably that damn screw right in the front.

Thanks Dwight. Your photo looks much better!!!
Quoted from lowbeau67:Seems like for 500 bucks you could
Do a diy topper that would look better
Good luck with that!
Quoted from Guinnesstime:Friend: Hey what are you being for Halloween this year?
Me: A Star Wars pinball topper
[quoted image]
I....can’t unsee that.
Quoted from Xaqery:The left is a picture from the Stern Arcade.
I don’t know what the Stern Arcade means, but that shape is way better. Projector still in wrong spot, assume that’s what the screw is for though.
Quoted from Aurich:I don’t know what the Stern Arcade means, but that shape is way better.
It's the area of pinball games that Stern has at the factory for play. There was a lot of pictures and video from the Expo tours of the topper Stern had on their Star Wars game there.
Quoted from ASOA:Isn't this just a place holder picture for pre orders? Stern has not shown the final topper as of yet. Correct? Am I missing something here?
i think u might be right. seeing being sold online thought was actually out.
Quoted from kermit24:PSA: eBay discount code is live. 15% off until 6pm PST. Max $100 savings.
Code:

Yeah I think we cleaned him out.
How are people selling something that does not exist? Topper has not been released and people are getting cupon codes. Lol
Quoted from ASOA:How are people selling something that does not exist? Topper has not been released and people are getting cupon codes. Lol
Well, if it wasn’t Game Room Guys ebay site I wouldn’t have done it. I have bought items from them and they are reputable so I am not worried.
Quoted from kermit24:Yeah I think we cleaned him out.
I bought the GOTG topper... No IM Aces Topper though...
Game Room Guys is a solid Stern Distributor. You should not be worried buying from them. However they should tell everyone that this is a pre order sale. This topper has been a nightmare to release with license hold ups. What happens if there is more hold ups? This puts the distributor in a bad position.
I hope I'm wrong and Game Room Guys has the only known in existence batch of star wars toppers.

End of January is what they put on the estimated delivery. They must know something. Lol.
I hope they are helping the good old folks at Stern paint and build each and every one of them. Whatever it takes to get that stupid overpriced topper on my game quicker. Lol
How many people remember the cost and superior quality of construction of Mark Davidson's ORIGINAL "wobble head" kit for DW? It works essentially in the same manner as this topper. This looks like a poor equivalent substitute.
Times have certainly changed in the pinball world.
I certainly hope this is a prototype and not the Stern finished product. Otherwise, collectors may be accepting mediocrity as a watchword.
Wish I would have seen this when the discount was still active...I'll have to keep an eye out for another one.

Iron Maiden and GotG toppers kind of confirm mediocrity is already the status quo at Stern for toppers.
