    Quoted from DirtinLa:

    guess I was confusing
not asking about the quality where continuity exists.
what I am asking is if the switchh is obviously open... yet it still shows continuity... is it possible
that the continuity I'm seeing if from a spot before the switch?

Yes. Example in first schematic snippet..doing a continuity test to check switch blades on M or N which show open in schematic, will show as closed due to switch blades on R being closed.
