Hey fellow Quick Draw fans,
My Quick Draw sat in the basement for 25 years and I'm trying to get it going again. I don't have much experience in repair, but getting started learning. I can play several/many games in a row, then suddenly the start button will not start a game (with credits showing). I can lift the playfield and manually activate the S-Start Relay and a game starts as normal. Several more games may pass before it happens again.

I haven't tried to keep track of the match number when it fails, but is that anywhere in the circuit? That's the only thing I can think of that is random. I have checked the anti-cheat switches. Any thoughts on where to look next would be appreciated.

Thanks for these troubleshooting steps Howard and pinhead. I'll get on these, but first I have to figure out what I did to my Player 2 score reel. I took it apart to clean and apparently can't get it back together correctly. Scoring 50 spins the 10,000 and other reels and makes a gear-slipping noise.

This line of work may not be my calling.

Thanks for those links, Howard, and Rolf was on the money about the ratchet assembly. Got that sorted out and the noise quit, but I still have erratic scoring on player 2. It must be on the 10s reel because when I get 50 points, the other reels spin unnecessarily. If I get 100 or 500, just the 100s reel moves and same with 1,000s, etc. I've looked at all the switches and they all seem right with the bottom one closing on Zero. There is a bit of a loose solder on the circuit board in position C next to 0. The solder is good but the rivet is loose in the board. Not sure if that could cause erratic scores?

Player 2 score reels usually don't reset either unless I tap the back of the score reel while the motor is running to reset. It's not the 10s reel that I need to tap to complete the reset, it's the 100s reel. Could that mean the coil is weak or getting stuck? Do I need to take the plunger out and change the sleeve?

Now I know why I've seen all the comments about score reels being a pain.

Thanks HowardR for all the advice and the schematic. I did a little more work on the P2 reel switches and things are a little more stable. It occurs to me that I might not know the basics of "cleaning" a switch. I worked on them with a fine nail file, but upon closer inspection they are pitted and rough. This machine sat in my damp basement for 25 years, so there is probably corrosion on all surfaces. Probably need some advice on proper cleaning of switches.

I also tried to tighten up the loose solder joint on P2 10s reel board (photo attached), but my solder skills are not the best. Let me know if that solder contact can cause any of the problems I'm having. As it stands, when P2 scores 50 points, the 100s advances 500 points as well. On P1, sometimes a drop target only scores 400 instead of 500. Those seem to be my only scoring issues now.

I won't be able to work on the machine until Sunday, but I'll PM you my number in case you get a chance to talk.

HowardR nailed that one...adjusted the 9th position switch and extra 500s went away. Thanks for the tip.

Hey guys...this looks like it has to do with the score motor not stopping in the right spot sometimes...causing the problem with the start button. Not sure if there is a switch controlling that or what? Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot?
