I am curious about these remakes such as Medieval Madness and Attack From Mars.
Since companies such as Bally haven't made Pinball machines in years, what kind of technical and legal issues did these guys have to go through to license a title? Wouldn't it be more profitable to build your own unlicensed title?
Were they given the original screens to print the graphics on the sides, the playfield etc?
Is there anyone who was involved with making the original game on board with the new manufactures?
Before you ask, no, I wouldn't know where to start to build a pin. My question is merely of interest.
Wouldn't it be cool if someone remade the DE Star Wars with modern sound and LED's!

They worked out a license with PPS. Since they are unlicenced themes (ie, not tied to a movie, TV show, etc), licensing is much easier because there are no 3rd-parties that need to give their approval.

It's easier to reuse a pre-existing design than to do everything from scratch.

It's a good possibility, although Mirco was already making playfields prior to the remakes.

That would be much more difficult to license. You have to license from Stern for the overall design, Lucasfilm for the overall theme, then licensing for the actors, licensing for the music & sounds.

I like that the remakes are available. I need the machines they are making in my collection in the future.

I hope they get further than monster bash in the next ten years, assuming that was the next title. I think I have to keep getting better, and get my ass financially in the market to take advantage of these games becoming available.

It's becoming a buyers market I think. And I am the future buyer. I like it.
