My friend who isn't on the forum asked me a question about Star Trek the Next Generation. I told him I would post his question as I don't know the rules or how it is supposed to play. Not knowing the well enough, it sounds like a problem versus it is supposed to be played. Here is what he sent me:

"I have a Star Trek Next Gen, the 2 bottom flippers work great.
The top flipper ( Right ) only works to make the left ramp shot when
you make the left side loop for the Warp speed.
You get the 1 try as it loops.
Then no top flipper again.
Is this correct?"

Thanks for any help in advance.

Go into switch edge test, and check what both optos on the flipper button opto board are doing.

You flip, it should flip. No matter when.

Check coil for poor solder joints.

It should work any time you press the right flipper button. Go to switch test and press the right button very lightly and then the rest of the way in, and you should clearly see two switches being activated. If the second one, which is for the upper flipper, is intermittent, try cleaning the opto board, or swap the l left and right flipper opto boards and see if it works better. Since the left side doesn't have an upper flipper, it doesn't matter if the second opto is flaky. Not sure what this has to do with the left orbit, could be a coincidence.

Thanks, I will pass it on to him and give him a link to the thread.

That is why he thought it was a rule or something as he doesn't know why it only works after you make the left side loop.

He tried that already, he thinks it might be something on the Fliptronics board. He will check that tomorrow by swapping out boards from another pin.
