What do the Q and Q with the line above it mean on U1? When I was replacing the socket these pads (4 and 5) lifted. Do I need them? Why are there lines coming off these legs of the chip on the schematic but they do not connect to anything? Maybe there is a good guide out there on reading schematics for dummies...

Quoted from GRUMPY:

These are the outputs for this chip, the line above the Q means its the opposite of the Q with out the line. So if the Q is a high output then the Q with the line above it will be low.

This chip is 2 devices in 1, so the are 2 Q and 2 Q with line above them. Pins 4 and 5 goes to the first device and pins 12 and 13 are for the second device. From this part of the schematics it looks like they are not needed, but make sure U1 isn't somewhere else on the schematics and pins 4 and 5 are being used also.

Thanks,
Seems like the unused pins from all the ICs are just left off of the schematics. That's why this one is confusing to me because it shows the pin and a line coming from it. Maybe they were planning on using it but never did...
