Greetings all,
My first post on Pinside; a great new resource.
I would like to know if there is any interest from any and all pinball enthusiasts whether or not mirror black nickel for their highly coveted games is something of value. We at Zplating have had numerous requests since the last pinball Expo whether or not we would be producing side rails, lock bars, head hinges, legs, etc in black nickel for Williams/Bally and Stern games. We had a Black Onyx Twilight Zone with black nickel armor at the 2011 Pinball Expo and it did receive good reviews.
That said, I am trying to put some feelers out there whether or not it is worthwhile making a run of black nickel armor. What everyone wants to know is cost and quality of product.
All parts would be polished and buffed to a mirror finish. They would then be plated and sent for a hard coat. Complete sets would run anywhere between $600-700 depending on volume of parts. Of course, the larger the run, the more cost effective it becomes and therefore affects the final price.
For now, the run would be geared toward Williams/Bally standard, not wide body, games. However, those wishing to have a wide body game finished in black nickel would just have to send in the lock bar; price should not vary that much.
For those in Illinois, I have a STNG at LM Amusements in Lisle (630-960-2880) with Side rails and lock bar with the finished product on display. Feel free to give Larry a call for a showing.
Anyway, I would like to hear from the group at your convenience,
It's an exciting and revolutionary time for pinball and we are sure happy to be a part of it.
Best to all,
Robert
