I am very stupid when it comes to Gottlieb games, and I don't understand what's going on in this Super Mario Brothers. The Q relay, after a bit of contact cleaning, activates just fine for test mode. I can flip the flippers, activate most solenoids (a few are not behaving), everything you would expect. But when I hit the button to start a game, the relay just sits there. Someone clearly tried to fix it before, as there are a lot of signs of someone not knowing what they were doing. Because of this, I don't even know where to start. There's nothing in the schematics showing what activates the Q relay other than the CPU/Driver board. I know the driver board is good, because I had to swap it out with the one from our Barb Wire. That leaves the CPU, I guess, but it seems to be working otherwise. Anyone run across this before?
If you're curious, signs of the the previously done "work":
Driver board transistors sprayed with some kind of sparkly grease
Solenoids with a winding pulled out
Melted solenoids
Wires to solenoids cut
Tools in the cabinet
