I had a call on a Bally Pool Sharks with a bad relay a/c select relay as the auxilary driver bd had a hole burnt in it and was repaired. Flashers were inoperative but the board was so hacked that I decided to replace it with a clean board with new relay. 1 month later customer calls and ball wont eject. Relay is toast internally as pictured. I was puzzled as i figured a fuse would blow before the relay arced itself to death.
Looking at the back and schematic it seems the 50 volts goes to feed the flashers via the relay and is not fused.
Anyone have any ideas? I plan to put in a new relay and want to fix the issue.

    Thanks in advance JR

I would investigate the driver tranny that controls that relay.

Hello, transistor is good. . Relay clicks as it should. It seems something is drawing too much current at toasting the contacts. Over time the contacts burn up and the relay gets stuck. Everything is fused properly which confuses me as if something is drawing too much current the fuse should go.

Did you check the resistance to ground on each of the wires that go to the contacts that are burning? That relay is 10 amps, so it should not be burning like that. I suspect something is going to ground that is bypassing the fuse. Also, are the correct lamps installed? You have a pretty good mystery on your hands.

Hello, Normal flash lamps are installed. I checked schematics and those contact points on relay are for drop targets, knocker and divertor. So I will go back to client after installing new relay and see what happens. probably run each of those coil tests and see if relay arcs on any of those. Possibly a coil is drawing too much. The tricky thing is is the relay works fine over a couple of months than fails. Previous driver board had burnt up relay as well. Thanks for the suggestions.

Wow , figured it out. Turns out previous owners had 63 lamps in all of the flashers so i mispoke on the flashers. Even though some worked i believe they drew too much current to stagger the relay and cause it to flutter burning contacts. The relay operates on 28vdc as well as the flashers. Thanks for the help.

Good deal - glad you figured it out.
