My first viewing of PF in the theater was truly memorable, as I'm sure it was for many others. Some tend to forget (or younger people just don't realize) how groundbreaking that movie actually was.
I was in college at the time & saw it with a bunch of friends. It was a small movie theater, the cheap ones with flip seats & a single aisle down the center. When that insane surf music kicked in & the massive bold lettering Pulp Fiction title slowly scrolled up the screen, it hit like a ton of bricks! Within the first 5 minutes of the film, you knew you were in for a special ride. I leaned right over to my buddy when those opening credits started rolling and said "DUDE I'm sooooo HIGH right now!!!" Haha. Never experienced anything quite like it, or that sense of anxiety that hung over the audience the entire film.
I just remember the way the entire audience was absolutely ROLLING with laughter when Walken revealed he kept that watch up his ass. The audience cringing & audibly moaning when Stoltz said Vincent would have to pierce her breastbone with the adrenaline shot, and then screaming when we heard the THUD. The audience squirming with anxiety as Butch slowly pressed that basement door open. The audience shock when Butch (guy you're rooting for) kills Vincent (another character you're rooting for) on the toilet in the middle of the movie, then cheering with joy when Vincent later returns via the nonlinear storytelling.
Truly one of the greatest films of all time. And an absolute travesty that Pulp Fiction lost to Forrest Gump for Best Picture that year. Give me a break!
