Yikes! Looks like your backbox was as bad off as mine. Rebuilding one from scratch since mine is held together by L-brackets.
Putting that aside to get started on my Hardtop this weekend![quoted image]

I have to rebuild the top of my backbox; someone lost the key and decided to hack their way in using a dull butter knife.

Does anyone know the part numbers for the head lock and the arm to secure the backglass in place? Maybe just need the arm?

Man if these ever go back on sale I’m gonna buy a couple Comets and a Future Spa and stock up on a couple others. I waited so long for a Comet playfield option and didn’t buy any yet because I haven’t started my restorations and didn’t want the adhesive to sit around and age. Now I feel like I missed my chance.

Got mine yesterday.

Quick Question: I am to the point that I'm ready to start sanding the playfield. I've read through the other posts and am confused as to what grit to start sanding with working up to finer grits. I don't know where I should start.
I have a 5 inch random orbit sander. Is this what you used? Any advice or insight from those brave enough to attempt this would be appreciated.

You can start with 80 grit and then work up. Are you planning to clear over the inserts?
The sander is fine just sand evenly don't make your playfield wavy.

#258 4 years ago

Thanks. I wasn't sure I should start with the 80 grit or if that was too aggressive.

Yes, I am planning on clearing everything. I got two cans of USC Spray Max 2k High Gloss Clearcoat in the spray can.

Go ahead and sand down to 220. That should be sufficient before you clear. I wipe the inserts with denatured alcohol and that shows me how they will look when clear is applied.

Ordered my HS Hardtop on June 26th and still hasn't arrived. Anyone else still not received their HS hardtop?

#261 4 years ago

Twice the labour should go twice as fast

#264 4 years ago

I just picked mine up at our nearby border. It is incredible looking quality wise. I did not get a shipping update nor a response to my e-mail when I tried to get an update. I am not sure if they are shut down fully without responses at this point. The product is fantastic and I wish Bruce and his company the best in getting back into production. This is a product that is licensed and deserves support. The care and detail is amazing.

My goal is to move to more of a manager/employee relationship. Then I can sit back while he does all the work.

I ordered on 26 June and am still waiting. No idea if someone stole it off my porch or what. No tracking info...nothing.

#267 4 years ago

Placed my order June 29th, received an email July 19th that its at the post office waiting for me to pick up. No delivery notice or anything.

Where can I buy this hardtop?

You can't right now. Ordering is frozen. But when they open it back up:

Today I finally recieved the HS hardtop I ordered on 26 June. Bruce emailed me back a few times over the past weeks about the delays. Maybe try again.

Right there with you. Looks like you had to “cheat” yours upwards like I did. Only holes I’ve had to drill were on the lower playfield.

Finished! Have one dead pop to troubleshoot and some switches to adjust, but otherwise all went well.

I will say that the whole rebuild process took me alot longer than I thought. Basically 1.5 full days from sanded and poly'd playfield to turning on the power and praying to the Pinball Gods that I won't fry my MPU.

Obligatory before and after pics attached, but I will post a full writeup in the Restoration forum, along with a link to a photo and video dump. I primarily used 4K/60 PFS video more than just pics.

Best of luck to all with their installs!

Yours looks great! Yeah, it was either see wood next to the inserts or redrill a little. I’m very happy with the fit knowing that every playfield isn’t exactly the same.

Where did you get your ramp?

Very nice! It has taken me more time than that (maybe 20 hrs and not done yet but almost) Most of the time is spent finding the photo that beat helps me put it back together!

Doesn't he do a transparent red version too?

Yes. I have one and its spectacular. I can't wait to install it. I also bought transparent red pop-bumper bodies...

Thank you!

Yep, I spent a lot of time going all Zapruder film on my pre-disassembly video. The GI wiring for the pops caused me to lose a lot of time.

As mentioned, Freeplay40 here made that awesome ramp. Came with it when I bought it, but would have bought one regardless. Red would definitely be my choice

Side note for posterity: Dead pop was simply a bad fuse on the Special Solenoid Saver board barakandl makes. Replaced the fuse and all is well. Highly recommend picking that board up if you don’t have it.

Best of luck getting yours done!

We all apparently missed something semi-major on this printing: The first insert on the tach that should read 1,000 actually reads 3,000!

Bummed that there’s no way to unsee - or fix - that now

#292 4 years ago

Oh. Wow. That is HUGE. I’m guessing subsequent runs will be fixed which means the early installers have one hell of a rare “Special Edition.”

You must work in sales It’s like that stamp with the upside down plane, right?

It’s upsetting, but I’m still way better off from a gameplay perspective. Just wanted to warn others who haven’t installed yet.

#294 4 years ago

$50 to the guy who writes an updated ROM that scores that at 3,000

I haven't installed yet. Is it possible to change the 3,000 lettering with a water slide decal?

Not likely as it’s printed on under side
Decal would be top side and wear quickly.
Unless it’s possible to blend clear with the hard top.
I guess that’s a question for outside edge.

No, I meant to print the decal in reverse and apply on the bottom side.

Mine is the same. Not sure how easy it will be to remove the "3,000" lettering...

Ah, gotcha. I Novus’d the insert portions prior to install and it seemed to be on there pretty well. Don’t think it will come off easily.

Might want to wait for the Outside Edge folks to chime in on what (if anything) they may offer to address this.
