Asked by a friend to help him price this project TZ. Will be working.

See photos. In addition translite there but really scratched. Underside ok, subway intact.

Tell me what you would sell for if it was yours. Fair price?

Posted quickly this AM at work - but I will check back later today to answer any questions - thanks.

I have never done a project this extensive so appreciate the thoughts of those who do this regularly.

#4 5 years ago

A fair price would be $3,500, that machine is a mess.

#5 5 years ago

Yeah, I agree with somewhere around $4k, either a little more or less depending on how badly it's roached out and condition once someone sees it in person.

It's gonna need a complete teardown, either a new playfield or a proper restoration, either of which isn't cheap -- and in the latter case time consuming.
Cabinet is gonna need to be complete stripped, repaired, painted, decal'd. It's nasty as is.
Likely need various new parts above and below.... that'll add up.

Gonna be a lot of work, which takes time.
I'd be into that, b/c I like a challenge and TZ is on my short list.

Its really hard to set a price without seeing it in person, but I would say somewhere in the $3-5K range depending on how significant the issues are. I really nice TZ can be worth $7-$9K depending on mods (i.e. color dmd), and condition.

Appreciate all of the comments and advice

Man that looks like a project I would love to do...

#10 5 years ago

How does the underside look on the playfield and cab?

Me too... Those kinds of projects are rare as hens teeth on the west coast.

I would call it rough condition players game, but not really a project if you don't want to restore it.
Tear down the pf, the inserts suck, but don't affect play much. Clean the cabinet up, vacuum out, no real need for decals.
It will be a polished turd, but playable.
4K as is will probly be the price

#14 5 years ago

Would be gone in a second if $3500. Someone would buy it just to flip at that price. If complete and mostly working I would say $4500. Clean it up and you might be able to get $5000. It's a TZ, c'mon.

#15 5 years ago

Thanks again from me and the owner for everyone's comments - I have passed along the numbers to him

$3,500. Just a note: Robert Winter in LA does amazing cabinet restore and decals for a reasonable price. I had mine restored last year and it looks amazing. At that time I took the playfield apart and cleaned. You could also replace the playfield as they are available. I will attach some pics of the final outcome. Game looks brand new!!

Does the game power up? If by some miracle all the electronics and mechs still work, and all u need to do is clean it up, replace rubbers, coils, etc then the game would easily be worth $5k....the challenge with this game is that parts are not cheap and there are a lot of them so $ adds up quick......

I've got money on the clock being broken!

Quoted from pinlink:

I've got money on the clock being broken!

Actually had a new aftermarket board and it worked (not Ingo's board though)

End of day follow up:

My friend just texted me that with the info everybody gave he worked out a very satisfactory sell (for him and his prospective buyer) so all is well.

I did not ask the selling price. Thanks again to all who weighed in.

#21 5 years ago

i agree at 3500 5k i think is too much. the playfield is shot or at least will need serious work, not to mention the cabinet looks like a mess. Take into account everything thing else needed to make it look like a 6-6500 TZ that you could buy for 1500 more and no work needed?

#22 5 years ago

That game looks like a hot mess to me but I think $4k is probably fair. More than I'd pay but probably fair and getable in this environment.

Nothing would surprise me these days but is someone really gonna pay more than that for that thing?

Can't wait to find out!

Would be a great ending to this thread to find the price paid for the condition the TZ was in.

Luckily a lot of parts are available for TZ but you are right. It adds up fast. Broken clock is not big deal but that's around $150. Biggest thing to me would be if boards are in good order and no battery damage on mpu.
