That is exactly what I was just about to suggest after reading CG's comments above. It's possible that the wires attached to the opto board are acting like little antennas and amplifying the EM noise being emitted by the EL wire. A ferrite core installed on each wire close to the board may do the trick.
By the way, CG, that new improved arcade mod is the sh*t!
Well played, CG! All you need now is some type of light up mod on the left side of the playfield to balance the arcade and Flynn's sign.

The stuff you currently have on it looks plenty bright in the photos. Three times brighter seems like it would be blinding.
Is there a way to rewire the service outlet so that the power to it shuts off when you turn the pin off?
