Anyone else puzzled by the lack of production updates from Stern? Particularly with KISS. We used to get bombarded with updates. Still haven't seen LE gameplay. No accessories on sale yet. Now with ComicCon here are they on hiatus? It seems all I'm reading are people unhappy with their QC. It would be nice to know if there are delays etc. Am I just being too impatient here?

Stern bombarding us with production updates? I don't think I remember that.

I was referring to their FB updates. They've seem to gone kinda quiet.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess - do you have a KISS LE on order?
Remember, they just moved into the new factory so I'm sure there's a lot going on.

    Premium actually.

Congats - it really looks like a winner. I enjoyed playing the Pro at the launch party.

Not sure why pinball manufactures get so many passes... I've said it a bazillion times about the other guy, but same is true here. In 2015 it takes roughly ...what..? 20secs to update people on what's happening.

"Moving to a new factory" is totally irrelevant. Use your phone, post a pic/tweet/whatever. I'm sure that every single Stern (in this case) staffer isn't too busy carrying factory equipment to send out a msg.

And no, I am not in on Kiss. This is more of an overall sentiment on pinball in 2015.

    Maybe they tightened his leash.

    Jared from Subway?

Maybe it's on purpose? Some calm before Back to The Future pinball is announced with a shipping date of October 21st of this year.

No, he's getting free "footlongs" from another source.

Does anyone know how many pinballs Stern can actually produce in a weeks time? Last I read they were working on the 600 LE and was also wondering if any have been shipped?

Stern actually DID post video of KISS LE gameplay back on June 24:

You should be able to watch the video at the link above, even if you aren't signed into Facebook.

Stern has the capacity to produce 100 pinball machines per day (500 per week), according to this recent article:

I recall reading elsewhere that they have two production lines, so one could assume they're at least pushing out 50 KISS machines per day. 400 done so far? Seems feasible...

Stern is a house of cards that throws 100 things at the wall and sees what sticks. Costco IM and BDK and then they're gone. Kiddie version TF and AV and then they're not gone. Premiums, no premiums and then premiums again. Vault editions with the impression that there would be many, but only one so far. Accessories and Stern authorized mods- they were available for TWD and then gone and then looks like they will be back for Kiss. But don't count on anything with them.

It doesn't seem like there is too much consistency or stick-to-it-ness over there on new offerings. Do they even do basic market research? I don't know the answer, but everything at leat appears to be pretty haphazard except for the actual building of the machines.

    #20 3 years ago

If they show even one extra bolt that does not appear on the production game Pinside will have their ass for it. Show no game before it is done would be my policy.

    #21 3 years ago

My experience on my met pro was the same. You'll get it when they get around to it. In the mean time, please be amused with their fb games, while they have an interst free loan from you. Nothing to see here...back to your regularly scheduled programming...

    #22 3 years ago

How on earth do you do 'basic market research' in this industry? I mean, seriously... Has anyone tried to quantify a sampling of pinheads and distill that down to some key component? We're a pretty fickle bunch, in my limited experience. Don't get me wrong - I keep looking for a common denominator but consistently find the opposite. That's why it's so hard to make a business model based on pinball exclusively.

    yeah, those idiots!

Very boring: they build machines, then they announce machines, then they ship machines.

I wish they would take a hint from the OTHER pinball companies that have a better handle on the market...

Then we agree. The one great thing that they do is the most important part, build pinball machines. Which part of my post did you actually disagree with?

    #28 3 years ago

when do ya think they will start producing them?

    #29 3 years ago

So you guys are saying that Kiss LE is delayed because of Jared from Subway - am I correct?

    Quoted from Eemanjaymes:

Last I heard was they'd be shipping early Aug. But that was before all these possible delays I'm hearing. It would just be nice if Stern kept us in the loop.

Lol.... Well, let's start with the first 6 words.... Hard to take anything else serious you say after that opening....

    Quoted from usandthem:

Stern is a house of cards.

Either you were joking, or you aren't really sure what that idiom means.

Stern is a lot of things, but to call their business "insubstantial and subject to imminent collapse" is just ignorant.

The statement on its own is foolish, but made even more so when you look at their place within the industry and the other players in the industry.

If Stern can be accused of anything, it's playing thing is too safe and moving too deliberately to innovate...

House of cards in this circumstance deals with my belief that while Stern has a lot of gloss, there does seem to be quite a bit of chaos when it comes to their new innovations or attempts to branch out. And no, I don't think that they are too many mistakes away from being in trouble again. Aside from that, you can condescend to somebody else.

I understand what you're saying, just disagree with the term "house of cards" as it implies instability.

I'm not sure what you mean by "chaos when it comes to their innovation"?

My perception is they are just SOOOO deliberate with their updates. Example, release Spike, and they just barely started nibbling around the corners of what it can do.

To me- it's just an ultra-conservative approach... frustrating, but they are risk averse. As I look around at others that have tried their hand at pinball, its hard to argue with their view.

I can understand if they have run into some production issues that they would wait until they are resolved before announcing something about it. As a manufacture I would think they would be concerned about the backlash if they announce some issue that they haven't figured out a solution to.

I seem to see it a bit on here. Issues arise and people start to cancel their orders.

You don't see the car companies announcing any recalls until they absolutely have to announce them.

    Just my 2 cents

I think they found a PF issue (some paint chunks coming up) so they were trying to resolve that. Which would of stopped or slowed production.

Agreed. Stern does not take your order (or your money) a distributor does. I have also never dealt with a distributor that has insisted on payment in full before the machine is ready to ship, so the whole "interest free loan" comment is absurd.

If someone has bought a pin and is waiting on it, and wants an update on status, talk to the distributor. They can dial up the sales people at Stern and will get more accurate info than you will get waiting on Facebook updates. If your distributor is unwilling or unable to help you out on this, find another distributor next time.

    #46 3 years ago

So Stern finally steps up their communication game and Jared posted a ton of pics as Kiss was announced and started to go on the line, tested, rolled out via launch parties etc.
How many pictures of Kiss machines being built do you need to see ?

So yes you got a bunch of updates as a new machine was announced and rolled out. I am sure you are going to see the same thing happen as an LE or premium is rolled off the line. But if he was posting daily about Kiss there would be just as many threads on here bashing stern for updating too much or whining about something else.

    #47 3 years ago

I paid before it shipped. I paid, was told it was going to ship, then was out my money when the game was still on the line supposedly waiting on backordered parts. Id have to check my emails, but i know it was at least 2 weeks. Sorry gents, that's an interest free loan while I waited. Dunno if it was to the distributer or stern, but someone had my money and it wasn't me.

well you can't pay stern, so your distributor has yo monies. You should be talking to them about that interest they are making

I think they are reviewing some issue they had. Hopefully one of them was better packaging. You can always call Rick at pps or church. I hate waiting but I just try not to think about it
