Hi,

i'm trying to repair a Gottlieb Solar Ride.
I've repaired the powersupply and i have al the good voltages.
Every day it is a step further but now i'm stuck.
I have replaced the A1-J5 cable since it was damaged by leaking battery.
I think there is still something wrong with the connections on the CPU-board itself.
I've renewed the connector A1-J6 but still problems.
After shorted capacitor C2 on CPU-board (for disabling the slamswitches) i get the following things after power up, which can be seen in following movie:

After pressing the on off button i have got the typical 5s-delay. I can already activate the flippers then ????
There are already lights activated on the playfield which shouldn't.
After pressing the creditbutton, i get a double beep and the displays freeze, i can still use the flippers.

Does anyone know what the problem(s) can be ?

Thanks by forehand

Your getting close to finding the problem with the connectors, I would just buy a new cpu board or first try all new connectors. It took me about 7 months working on a BR. Got it running and sold it, I will never have have a system 1 again. Just my opinion.

Unfortunately, you'll most definitely have to re-pin all of the connectors. It's either your connectors or acid damage on your MPU. Start by reworking all of the connectors.

Yup. Go with repinning the card edge connectors first (all of them), and then look to the CPU board. It'll be time consuming, but it's something that needs to be done.

Damn, it took me more than 1 hour to replace six connectors.
I've bought the extraction-tool, but apperently it works only on youtube

Any suggestions ?

And indeed the lower connectors on the board are looking bad, the only copper now

I personally recommend getting a hook/pick set & using them. Word to the wise, wear gloves until you get the hang of it because you most likely will scrape your hand with one of these. You can find a set like the one below at your local hardware store, lowes, menards, etc.

Also they take a long time either route. So be patient.

That extraction tool is expensive for what it is, and I broke 2 repinning my Buck Rogers... ugh. Go slow, and be methodical.

You can use safety pins too, if you're in a bind.

Good luck!

If you can't resolve your issue. I purchased a Pascal board a few years back and was very happy with it.

You'll still have to re-pin those card edge connectors though. My Buck Rogers didn't operate properly until I finished all the pins, and that was with the Pascal Pi-1X4 board. (Which, btw, I cannot recommend highly enough. It's been a flawless product.)

Yes, definitely re-pin any connector that has acid damage. Even then, there is a possibility for acid stored in the wire to travel back to a new/repaired MPU board. It is even possible for acid to travel to the opposite end of the wire.
