Problem with Pinbits STLE sling protectors

Hi there,

I've had Pinbits plastics protectors in my STLE since it was a couple of weeks old. The sling protectors look quite good in blue, with the hex-pattern cover over the inlanes. The problem I seem to have though, is that when you install the protectors and then the sling plastic, there is very little meat left on the thread of the post that the LED lamps screw to. Certainly not enough to put the lock washers back on, and every photo I've seen of them has the lock washers gone. So, no matter how hard I do them up, the lamp posts always loosen (and therefore change the aim of the LED lamp) after a couple of games. I'm not game to do them up too tight in case the plastic cracks or I strip the lamp post.

Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a post with a longer thread that I can substitute? The STLE manual lists a few different posts, but the original is 6-32 thread at the top, by the look of it, while the other longer ones are 8-32. Anyone know if there's a Stern (or perhaps Williams) part that might work?

I've toyed with the idea of using the larger post underneath and making some new lamp posts with my 3D printer, but would prefer of course to keep the original look.

Cheers,

FP

Yes, I had that problem. My post ended up loosening too much and falling off during a game. I think I just removed a washer to give me more thread for my post.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say - on my game there are no washers at all under the lamp post, I had to remove them - even so there is only about 1/8 inch of thread exposed, or less, which isn't enough to do it up tight enough... like yours, it loosens to the point of falling over.

Anybody know of a post with longer thread on the top?

maybe just add a dab of loctight, I also had to remove the washers but was able to tighten them up enough so it doesn't loosen. If you want to really get aggravated order the STLE pop bumper dress up kit...youll be spitting fire. They were very helpful @ Pinbits thou

Thanks msj, thought about that too, I guess that will have to suffice. I do have the Pinbits pop bumper dress-up kit... so far only been game to do the one at the front which is fairly east to get to. Still trying to summon up the courage to tackle the others

Cheers
