I have a few mid-wire cloth insulation tears that I'd like to clean up.

My electrical tape doesn't stick to the insulation so it slides away from where it needs to be. My next best option would be to cut, add heat shrink, and re-solder.

    Are there any better options?

Tim, I ended up going with your advice. Thanks for the nudge to put in the extra effort.
