I'd like to compile a list of game prices over time, adjusted for inflation to see how much things have really changed over time. http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?

Can you supply us with the year, the game title, it's NIB price (no tax, no shipping)

The goal is to include standard retail pricing only -- (not closeout pricing, not distributor cost, no discounts, etc.)

Any year, any title is fine. Just help us paint a picture...

If you know of links to compilations that are already complete, feel free to link it as well.

If you can snap and share a pic of the receipt, that would be a bonus...

thanks!

In 1999 I paid $3995 plus tax for my RFM one week before they closed them out for $2995. I remember Twilight Zones were closed out for $1995 and Dirty Harrys for $1695.

TAFG and STTNG 1994 both were $4500 NIB and picked up not shipped.

In 2008 I bought Family Guy NIB for $3950 shipped.

#6 9 years ago

How should I account for:

1. did you pay tax?
2. did you pay shipping (to your home -- not a required fee to ship to the distributor)?

this could turn into 4 lists. We want just 1. =)

I'm thinking I need to ask each person to make their "best guess" at stripping tax and shipping... is that fair?

#7 9 years ago

Yeah, we just care about cost of pin. Shipping and tax are a product of location and can dramatically change costs (+/- 10% potentially).

Fair. Adjusted rules to:

no tax, no shipping -- you gotta do your best arithmetrickery on your price.

Can I ask you to kindly please strip tax/shipping on that magic #?

Picked up my FGY for $3600 out the door.

RFM was the exact same price shipped..so probably $3400ish

Still got'em both

#11 9 years ago

2013,MMR,$7995,?

Medieval Madness 8/1997. $3855
RFM 7/1999 $4167
Monopoly ?/2001. $3567

All include tax and delivery and probably were $200-$400 higher then they should have been. SWE1 was a few hundred dollars less, but I don't remember the specifics.

Safe Cracker, 10/1997 $2100 no tax, no shipping.

#16 9 years ago

CV's, NIB, blown out at my vendor back in the day for $1999, plus tax.

#17 9 years ago

in that pin2k documentary, they said that South Park was $3k NIB in 99 (which made the pin2ks a hard sell)

#18 9 years ago
Quoted from Coyote:

Wow - was that a close out or special? Seems very low.

Yup. I passed on a Cactus Canyon at the same price. Could only get one at the time and bet on RFM.

Love my RFM, but sure wish I'd bought a CC (or two) instead.

#20 9 years ago

In 2010 I worked out a trade that amounted to a NIB BDK for $4300. No tax, no shipping. I picked it up at the dealer.

#21 9 years ago

2014- Popeye saves the Earth NIB- $5995.00

Of course there are other NIB machines you can get cheaper, but remember, this is a widebody.

if it makes you feel any better ... I think you picked the better game.

Quoted from jfh:

Not 100% sure. It was a while after it was initially released, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 'close out'.

The story was that I had JUST learned of the game, and got a bonus at work. Was working at a Mountasia (..heh) out in Colorado, and called my distributor, asked if they had any. They said they didn't. Called me back a day later, saying their Arizona location had one 'in the back of the warehouse', NIB, if I was interested. Hell yeah, they shipped it up to Denver for me, I picked it up and took it home.

#26 9 years ago

NIB Monster Bash from distributor 1998 - $3200 + $80 for shipping
I don't think they ever had a closeout special on Monster Bash.

#27 9 years ago

Added a "lowest adjusted", and a "highest adjusted", as well as a current high price (is it RAZA?)

#31 9 years ago

Looking back I thought it was high but I got through a friend in the industry so it may have been distributor pricing.

#32 9 years ago

It will be cool to get some prices from the 70's and 80's in here.
-mof

#33 9 years ago

Don't recall shipping on STTNG but LOTR was $150 so $3750.

#34 9 years ago

Added a request to OP that all pricing be retail - no discount.
thanks!
-mof

#35 9 years ago

KISS was $1800 list, and your good guy price was ~$1500

One of the few games that kept up with inflation, lol

#36 9 years ago

I'm no expert on pricing -- please thumbs up/down the prices you want included in the list.
I'll do my best to only include the ones that are no tax, no ship, no discount. Your thumbs would be appreciated.

#37 9 years ago

I believe it was in the movie "Tilt" that explained that SWE1 was the most expensive pinball sold at Williams which was $3500 in 1999. I would have though that was retail pricing...

#38 9 years ago

Don't think I have the paper work anymore but I'm pretty sure I paid $3850 for LOTR in 2003. I believe that was shipped. So probably $3700.

#39 9 years ago

Just for fun, let's see if we can include a price from every year from the solid state era (at least)...

Every 10 inputs, I'll post the two very interesting numbers:

Actual Retail Average: x
Adjusted Average Retail Price: y

It's the difference between x and y where it gets really interesting...

In my brain, movie tickets "should be" $3-5 (since that's what I paid in my high school years). But my brain hasn't adjusted for inflation to think that $10-$11 is reasonable. I honestly think it's all cock-a-mahooey pricing!!! I laugh at idiots (like me) who spend $11 on a movie, hahahaha... wait...

1986->2014 pricing = 2.17x adjustment. So a $5 ticket SHOULD be $11. Sigh... Prices haven't changed at all !!! (but I'll have nothing of it !!! I refuse to adjust.)

Looking forward to some early 80's and sys11 pricing...

I picked up a routed circus Voltaire last year for $1800.. Operator said he got two from New England coin op nib for $1700 when they were pushing them out the door. No one was buying them

Only $150 for shipping?!?!?!?!

Geez, people today are being skinned alive for shipping.

I think shipping direct from the manufacture was always a little less.....but yes shipping cost have gone way up over the last 11 years.

#44 9 years ago

Who has a price for us today? Really looking forward to a few from the 80's...

Who's got a price for us this week on a NIB purchase from yesteryear?

$3400 MM 1997 from my local amusement company. AFM a year earlier was a little less. Still my best games.

That's about what I would be willing to pay now. Nice to see old pinball machines still holding their value.
