I bought a T2 a couple years ago for under a $1,000. It had a few switch issues, some of the GI didn't work and a couple other "minor" issues. Well in the end it took me 6 months to get it up and running. The GI was caused by burnt connectors (really common in this machine, check the board to see if the connectors are brown instead of white). The switch errors were also a board problem (the switch matrix). I did the repairs myself so I think I still got a good deal, but it was definitely more work than I expected.
Prior to buying this T2 I turned down one for $800 that had issues, missing ship, wrong speaker grill and bad DMD. Not worth it.
