If the game is in fact working, it should boot up fine. Any errors, typically switch errors, will show when the machine turns on. Just be sure you don't arrive and find the machine already on....if so, just turn it off, wait a couple seconds and then turn it on. If it has ram issues or battery circuit issues the machine will post a message, "Adjustment error". Most important on these games is damage on the main circuit board from leaking batteries. You can also check for any burnt connectors in the back box if you want, but these are repairable. If there is evidence of corrosion on the circuit board around the batteries, this is of concern. There are many degrees of corrosion. If the machine boots up fine and there is evidence of some battery corrosion it is likely not too bad and can be neutralized and cleaned up.
If you want to test the rotating beacon it can be done via the test menus or you can remove the glass, trip all three green targets, then the yellow targets, then the red targets, then send the ball up the ramp....that should trigger the beacon.
