I'm looking at this machine to buy. How much is a genesis worth?

6 to 8

#3 10 years ago

Of course this is contingent on the shape of the ramps.

#4 10 years ago

600 to 800 in good condition?

#5 10 years ago

I thought Genesis goes for more than 600-800, but I think you really need more pics to get accurate feedback on pricing.

#6 10 years ago

I have seen several Genesis machines for sale recently.
HUO-$900-$1000
Routed-$600-$800
Ramps are the biggest deal. Cannot find originals and not sure if the aftermarket ones are still available. One thing cool to do is aftermarket alternative decal set. It makes the machine pop.

Fantastic game especially in the $500-800 range. Sold a nice one a few years back for $600. The previous responses are correct, check those ramps!

Those ramps are beautiful from what I can tell in the pics...

Usually they're cracked by the entrances and where it does the tight turn.

#10 10 years ago

Man, why are there no Genesis pins in the Southeast for sale? I've been after one for ages.

#11 10 years ago

I sold mine to my sister for 700. I screwed her over cause she was family. She loves it and won't sell it.

#12 10 years ago

Wow. Nice ramps. $700 or so. Great game! Love mine.

I guess the score board is not working? What could it be?

Really hard to say.
Power.
Connection between MPU and display.
The glass tubes don't fail very often...I've never seen one fail.
The 3 big ICs on the display board do fail, but that seems rare too. Good thing. They are nearly unobtainium.

Is it worth 300 if the display is not working and may need board work?

Yes!

Yes

Is it any fun?

#20 10 years ago

Sure is. And the reveal is pretty sweet.

#21 10 years ago

Here's a TNT Amusements video of a Genesis. Gives you some feel for it.

PB Resource doesn't carry these ramps? I would have thought they would have them, but never checked with them.

Nope... Probably one of the the first things he sold out on.

I know at one time, Steve was contemplating on re-running these again - guess that's in limbo.

#24 10 years ago

Steve needs to do it... i will have a phone conference call with him ASAP !

#25 10 years ago

Is there anything else to look for other than ramps?

#26 10 years ago

Paid 800 for mine with all leds and freshly shopped and it sure is a great bang for your buck game

From the looks of it, no. It has nice ramps and the pf looks good as does the cab from the pics. You can't get ramps and if the pf was trashed it wouldn't be worth fixing. If you get it in the $300 range after fixing the issues you should still be in pretty good shape. I know I would have already bought it.

#28 10 years ago

Do you have to do anything to the boards to put LEDS in?

#29 10 years ago

That is a very good deal on a Genesis. I have had 3 of them over the years and its a great game. Pic of my last restore is below. The lit pop bumpers go great on this game.006 (3).JPG006 (3).JPG
The first thing I would do is pull the ramps and see if you can find someone to use them as a model to make some repros.
And the second thing is to either make them yourself or find someone to make some ramp protectors for it.

#30 10 years ago

yes. make some ramps. I need a set bad!

#31 10 years ago

^^ I never thought I would say this about any Genesis machine, but that is a BEAUTIFUL looking restored one prowlerman99! ^^ Love the custom art all around as well as the electric blue ramps. Looks like a completely different game. Nice work!

#32 10 years ago

Nice looking machine!

#33 10 years ago

Has anyone had any problems with the display not working?

#34 10 years ago

Did you check for any voltage yet? Like mr. Hibler mentioned, I would guess it would be as simple as a bum connection. I assume you checked the fuses?
