Price Check: Fireball II

Saw an ad for a Fireball II. I like Fireball II, but the main issue is that the playfield is busted bad. Here are the details that the seller provided.

"Players condition. Everything works.Has scuffs on the side. Play field and backglass in decent shape. Multi ball. Some new boards( see pics). Sometimes while playing the game will reset??? Not sure what's up. $1000 obo. Local pickup only. "

What do you guys think? I've been looking for my first pin for a while now, but haven't been able to close a good deal yet. I can use a soldering iron and meter, and my dad is an amusements tech, so some fixing is okay, but I don't want to have to take on too big a job or pay too much.

Looks like it might have got wet or something inside the cab.

$1000 does not sound too bad. Or $700- $800 best offer would be a better deal.

I find early SS Ballys fairly easy to repair. Usually repinning connectors is kinda tedious, but fixes a lot of things.

Game resetting probably means that the voltage is low. A new rectifier board is only $55-60 and might solve some problems. That playfield is bad and you're lucky that a fellow pinsider has one for sale. I don't think CPR has made this title.

I'd offer $500, but not pay more than $600.

That's good in theory, but I don't know that I'm ready to tackle a playfield swap. Unless the playfield was all ready populated, I'd say the task was beyond my skills at this point. My dad has a lot more skills in that area than me, and could help quite a bit, but I'm not sure. It sounds hard to the layman. My thinking is I might only keep it for a while, and then pass it on as a project pin for someone who wants to tackle that playfield. But you never know how these things will turn out.

The playfield hurts the asking price but I still see $600 as reasonable and more based on how bad you want it.

A playfield swap is not as hard as it looks, but it is tedious. If you take plenty of pictures, and I mean a lot....

or if you have another playfield to model it after, you could do it in a couple of weeks.

I don't know what the issue is with Fireball II playfields, I have two that actually look worse than that. One is still about 60% populated, the other is depopulated and framed.

I don't blame you for not wanting to do it, but if you buy a used one in good shape, or even find somebody that can repaint it for you, the playfield has to be depopulated.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you decide to pursue this. I agree with everybody else that offered the opinion that $1000 might be a bit high. Mainly due to the condition of the playfield and the task presented to possibly replace or restore it to good condition. Don't forget clear-coating after painting, either.

$600-$800. I guess it depends on how much you want the game.
